Time

If i had a superpower it would be the ability to control time, because i dont have enough of it. When i stopped time everything would stop moving and aging, if i went back in time nobody would remember but me, and if i fastforwarded time it would feel like regular time for everyone except for me and i would automaticly know what happened while i was fastforwarding time. Of course i would use this power for fun like watching funning things people did over and over again or if i had to chose between two things i really wanted to do i would do one thing then go back in time and do the other one. I would also use it to get my homework done, so i could use they "regular time" doing fun things. If i had to chose between being a bad guy and being a good guy, i would be good. But i wouldnt have a name because i wouldnt want people to know i could control time, so nobody would no about me.

A regular day-
One day after i came home from school i stopped time, so i could do my homework. When i was done i decided to watch t.v so i went up stairs and turned it on. The channel it was on was the news, but as i was about to change the channel a story came up. It appeared that a criminal had held up a bank while i was at school, unfortunatly someone tried to stand up to the rober before the police got there and had been shot. Then the rober left before anything else happened. After, i turned off the t.v, then i stopped time and walked to the bank. Without starting time i went back a few hours before the criminal got to the bank, then walked to the police station where i left a note telling them what had happen. When i got home i fastforwarded to the point after i had done my homework and went up stairs to check the news, where instead of a story about a bank robery i found out what the weather was going to be like tommorow

SUPERPOWERS!

If I could have any superpower, it would definatly be to fly because the excitement and fun of flying would be AMAZING!!! If I had this power, I would fly all the time. I'd probably fly instead of driving in the car. And if ever I wanted to go to a friends house, or go to see relatives that live far away, I'd fly. It would be a leisure, it would be a fulfillment, and it would be a dream come true.
But, this seems too selfish. My choice to only please myself, and not help other people. Even though flying is like a dream, I would probably choose another power before that one. I would get freezing powers, to re-freeze the polar ice-caps. This would prevent Global Warming from effecting the planet and would really help the people of the world. People just keep waiting and sitting around and complain about this "horrible world", but they need to take a stand and do something about it. As a mere human there are only the little things, but with a superpower I could really make a change.

The day it all started, when Kelly Moak became Super-Kelly ("The Savior")... it went something like this...

One day, Kelly went to school. It was a B-day and she had English 2nd black. Her teacher Mrs.Gaboury handed out an assignment called "Planet Research Project". There were a few categories in which you could research. She chose Global Warming as her topic. She went home and decided to look into this problem. The polar ice-caps are melting due to this inscrease in temperature and the coastal areas of the world will be flooded resulting in damage and death to many if this continues to happen. She was in SHOCK! That night Kelly went to bed, and felt something cold. It was an ice-cube. She thought her dad was playing a trick on her, so she grabbed the ice-cube to throw it downstairs. It instantly turned into a freezing sword! She started handling the sword and she accidentally touched her bedroom window...IT FROZE! What next? She touched her teddy bear, and it froze over into solid ice. Kelly was shocked, and didn't know what to do. She went to sleep hoping a solution would come to her. When she awoke she knew what had to be done. Kelly went on a trip to the "edges of the world" and found these polar icecaps. She used her sword and her strength to freeze them over, stopping the melting. When the rest of the world found out what she had done, she was named Super-Kelly... "The Savior"! Everyone rejoiced and was so proud of their hero. Some people became jelous and wanted this power too, and tried to steal the sword, but they (not having the power of peace) could not use the sword. Frank Houser grabbed the sword and immediatly FROZE! Many people rejoiced again! He would eventually melt, and by that time maybe his political views would make some more sense then they presently do. Super-Kelly would never use her power for the wrong things, and she would remain "The Savior" for years to come...

The End.

I really wish this was a true story, but unfortunatly, it is mere fiction.

Super-Duper-Powers

If I were to choose a super power it would have to be mind control. First off, I would never actually have to do anything that someone tells me. (Hint at wether I would support good or evil) Also I could influence powerful people to do what I want and the world would be my steamy "oyster". That is, until the human race evolves to counter this and some new ridiculous mega super good guy is created. To stop this, I would take a leaf out of Shi Huangdi's book and bury the comic book writers alive and burn all the comics. Except, I would use mind control to make them bury themselves. To prevent further rebellion I would use my mind control to reinstate the red scare and the paranoia that insued. I would be the representive from the gods for democracy and everyone I didn't like would be the reds. (I'm looking at you, rappers.) I would further alter our culture so that real music such as lets see ROCK will be popular to the masses again. My name would be The Second Coming of Darwin. as such, the religion of science shall reign! I have learned from many rulers in the past so I know what works. (The Holocaust was not a good idea, regardless of how high of an IQ hitler had). I think that the world would prosper under my reign. My archnemisis is the Amazing Filibuster. I find him and his rants mildly annoying. To defeat him I am constantly devising plans.

One time, he was trying to save a few comic book writers by overloading their brains with some religious preaching. To stop him I was forced to control and apes mind to hit him in the back of the head with a shovel. Unfortunatly due to some differences in our DNA, the monky promptly broke out in tears and ran, thinking I had insulted its mother. So instead, I was forced to run, NOT, I don't concede with supervillian norms, so instead I laughed a very maniacal laugh and held a gun to his head and talked about how this was his end and how he was going to die. However, this gave him enough time to remember his jujitsu trainging from when he was 5 and quickly disarmed me. I lost that battle, but managed to get away via transport of a passing giant wurm.

*******!!!!!SUPERPOWERS!!!!!!!********

SUPERPOWERS!! Do do do doo do doooooooo!!!!

I was discussing this exact topic with a few friends the other day, and I've decided that if I could have any superpower it would be the abillity to transform. Other people said they would prefer flying, or invisibility, but if I could transform I could transform into something that was invisible or something that could fly, or both. It has endless possibilities. If I had this power, my name would be Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious Girl (SCFLED Girl), because this name uses almost every letter in the alphabet and I could transform into almost anything.

One day, when SCFLED Girl was on her way to school, she saw her evil archnemesis, Warp Boy about to rob the homeless shelter. She knew he wasn't actually interested in stealing from them, but was trying to get her attention so he could try to kill her(very unlikely). Once she saw him she transformed into him, so she could control time, and added a few extra powers like the ability to control fire and water. In the millisecond it took her to transform, Warp Boy had gone back in time and was probably trying to kill her, so she knew she would have to go back in time to save herself. However, it wasn't as simple as that, she had to be careful not to ruin the space time continuim (this wasn't important to Warp Boy bewcause he was conceded and cared about NO ONE but himself). So SCFLED Girl went back in time, making sure she didn't do anything that would ruin the continuim. She saw Warp Boy trying to strangle her(in vain), he had thought of no better way. She raised her hand to shoot a fireball at him, but when he saw it coming he dissapeared. SCFLED Girl went back in time to hold onto Warp Boy so that he couldn't escape. She was succesfull in holding him in place for a little while, but he got away at the last minute and she would have been killed by the fireball had she not transformed into a dragon. She would never be able to catch him, and he would never catch her, it was like the chicken and egg question which came first. This constant struggle went on for years, until SCFLED Girl finally convinced Warp Boy to become a superhero, and help people instead of hurting them. Upon converting to the good side Warp boy admitted that the reason he had been a supervillain was because he was jealous of her superior powers, SCFLED Girl felt terrible, and was able to convince him that his power was equally as good as hers, and since that day they have been partners in fighting evil villains.
THE END

SuperPowers!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello today I am forced to think what superpowers I would have. HAHAHAHAHAHA. This is easy I would want to fly. I would want to fly because I would not have to wait in traffic when I am going to take over there world. The future world leader does not wait in traffic he fly’s and fly’s super fast. So fast that im flying fast then the speed of sight. Also I would want this so incase there was a rebellion and I had to go and control it so I keep in power. Also so incase there is a missile flying at my base I could fly out and faster then the missile would ever fly.
Also I would want to live forever or as long as I want to so I could control the world forever. MWAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!! I would also want to live forever to make sure no one take control when im gone and losses control and makes the world free again.
Also I would want to control zombies. I would want to control zombies because everyone is scared of them and they could eliminate the Stampfinator and his army teletubbies.
One day Jimmy Waterous (as called by The Duff) was taking a stroll in his gigantic kingdom of The World. The Stampfinator came along and got his way and did not bow to him. So I was really mad and summoned his zombie army. Dun Dun Dunnnnnnnnnnnn! And the Stampfiinator summoned his teletubbies and the fight was on!!!!!!!!!! It was a vicious fight that went on for months. Then the Waterosus and Stampfinator started to fight. It was a fight that went on for day’s weeks so long I lost track. Then Jimmy landed a hard right hook right to the jaw the Stampfinator. The Stampinatpor started to cry like a little girl but Waterous felt bad and asked him to join his army so they could take over Mars and the universe. But the Stampfinator died on Jupiter. He died from lack of oxygen. They had a bug funeral but the Waterous succeed in taking over the universe. The END!!!!!!!!!

Superpowers

If I could have any superpowers, I would have super strenght, speed, and I would be able to read minds. That would be awesome because I would like to know what people are thinking and do exactly what they don't want me to do just to annoy them. i think that would be pretty fun. Also, if i ever got in a fight, I would just beast on everybody without a second thought. And, i wouldn't need a car because i could just run everywhere really fast. i would use this power to get rid of all the countries that i don't like. also, Iwould annoy all the people that i don't like. This would be awesome because i would go to jimmy's dictatorplace and annoy him so much like i can do now. It's pretty funny to watch Jimmy get annoyed. i would go to every country and make their native language be english. Also, i would have thousands of slaves to do whatever i want and to carry me everywhere. I would probably be evil because it is so much more fun. It is so much more fun to cause problems then fix them. Also, I would have a cool hideout with lots of cool technology and other cool stuff. like a batting cage, a ice cream machine machine, and i would have a pet platapus named platty. Except he would be a cool paltapus that know Ju-Jitsu, Tai-kwan Do, and 7 other forms of martial arts. i would also have a super cool training are where i can work on being a better super villian. i would also have a laser tag arena in my Villian crib, and a whole room full of Energy drinks that would give me a super energy boost.

Peace,
Christian

P.S. Peace for now!!!! Mwahhaahahhhaaaa!!!!!!!!!

Tyler - Superpower

Often times, we ponder the fantasy of having a superpower. The idea of defying the laws of nature and logic with unnatural abilities has been a ponderance to many an imagination. There are many superpowers one could have, however, so what and how would one choose for a superpower?
Personally, I would want the power of necromancy, or the power to raise the dead an bind them to your will. This is because I have always found a fascination with the idea of necromancy. I'm not quite sure why; Perhaps it is because it is the idea of controlling them, or simply the dead's embodiment of morbidity.
What I would do with this power is still up for debate. This power would not be limited to "evil," you see. I could command them to be fire fighters, or perhaps I could make a citcom, based on the highly unsuccessful "Caveman" show: "Minions in Miami." I could even have them fight in war, making an almost indestructable barrage of minions. More likely, though, I would simply have fun with them. Causing havoc in a major city simply by sending minions and observing the reaction. I could send my minions to talk shows. I can picture it now:
"Well minion, how are you today?"
"Ugghhhhh."
"You look a little stiff."
If I had an "evil" day, I would destroy a city with them, but that was only if I really felt evil. This wide spectrum of possibilities is one of the attracting factors for the "superpower." The idea of it interests me quite alot, and here is the "anecdote." Despite the fact that I am poor at writing fictional stories, especially those of such an absurd nature as this, I will make an attempt.
Raising minions is always fun. Tyler, who has decided to call himself "Tyler" in his superpowered adventures, has recently learned that his minion, the so-named "Minion 39," will be appearing in an upcoming season of "The Apprentice" with Donald Trump, as a contestant. Tyler, wanting to make Minion 39 appear to be better qualified, has created for Minion 39 a fake certificate of a PhD from Yale (In law) and several fake references by people who won cases on account of his fake law firm.
Anyway, Minion 39's first undertaking was to sell the most Halloween candy on one Halloween. Minion 39 was often congratulated on his "costume" and authentic "scents," and they were factors that allowed him to be the best salesman on his team, named "Winners." (His groupmates weren't a creative bunch). Someone from the other team, which was named "The Winners," was kicked.
In his second challenge, Minion 39 didn't do so well. The challenge was to make the most money by making their own restaraunt. Minion 39 ended up being the waiter. Now, as was mentioned before, Minion 39 has an authentic "scent" and "custome." Without needing to go into details, three people threw up and the ViP who went to his restaraunt, Martha Stewart, fainted.
The boardroom was very catty. Minion 39 and his team-mates Gilbert and Bertrand (They're from a different decade), were constantly exchanged petty, verbal blows. Minion 39 ended up being saved by a hair, and Gilbert was fired. Minion 39 celebrated with champagne, which is ironically the reason he died in the first place.
After many challenges, there were only two people left. The last challenge had taken place, and the competitors had performed evenly. These competitors were Minion 39 and Wilson (You know, from "Cast Away"). Anyway, the Donald decided that Wilson was a better businessman, and Minion 39 is now suffering from a severe case of depression.
Tyler is currently working with Minion 39's friend, Minion 37, to get him out of his depression. In any case Tyler can look forward to a morbid next few months. Gloomy death, how novel.

The Things You Carry

In the novel The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, the soliders are often characterized by what items they carried on their body, in their pockets, in their bags, around their necks, on their heads, on their feet, etc. Each of the items seemed to symbolize a character trait which enabled the reader to better understand the personalites of the soldiers.

In light of the wildfires with rapid evacuations in CA, what would you carry? What personal items would you put into a bag, carry on your head, etc.?

Then, after you pack your bag and person, what items would you help your family put into a family vehicle?

Explain why you would take each item and what those items mean to you and your family, what part of your personality/your family values do these items symbolize?

Be creative and not list-y in your writing. The MORE you write--the closer your grade reaches excellent. The MORE thought you put into your writing--the closer you get to a guaranteed excellent grade.

Enjoy!

October-Goals and Aspirations

Welcome to October! As good a time as ever to reflect and aspire! Breathe in that wonderful cinnamon smelling air! Oh, is that just my plug in? :-)

Today I want you to think and write on the following questions. Shoot for eight or more sentences overall, please. Work on writing a smooth piece, don't just list the answers.
1- What are your goals and aspirations for this year?
2- What are your goals and aspirations for your school years?
3- What do you see yourself doing after high school? After college? 5 years from now?
4- What are you going to do to make sure these goals and aspirations come to be?

Enjoy!

Pep Rally

Pep Rally

Today, a pep rally took place at the Averill Park High School. This really made me think about some things, even though I didn't particularly enjoy it. I pondered such things as tradition, foreign cultures, rites of passage, and ear damage. The pep rally had such an effect that it managed to influence me to compose this reflection.
Sitting in the bleachers reserved for the freshmen class and taking in the sights (And more importantly, sounds) of the pep rally, I pondered tradition and how different cultures view each others'. I have no bias for or against pep rallies, besides the fact that I recognize their promotion of ear damage and the subsequent hearing aides. As such, I thought about how pointless the things we were doing were.
Let me explain, if you have never experienced such an event. We had various students (Who represented their classes or grades) and teachers who did silly things (Which all happened one after the other) like climbing under table, manuevering around cones, finding one paper in a pile (It was distinguished, apparently), eating a doughnut from a string, and then chasing a ping pong ball on a string and trying to grab it with their jaw. After an individual completed their divine trial, they were cheered by screams of students grades 9-12, the screams echoing in the large gymnasium. Cheerleaders performed feats of acrobatics and voiced uninterpretable yells of school spirit.
Here I sat, thinking about the pointlessness of such an event. This brought me to thinking about how other people not familiar with events similar to this might be impressed. Can you imagine someone from a foreign country like Egypt watching this? He would think that Americans are crazy (If he doesn't already, many do).
Further, this has made me think about the traditions of others. Who are we to judge peoples' traditions when we commit to ceremonies of screams for the not-so-elusive "school spirit?" For example, many are critical of fasting. Who are we to judge the faith, denomination, customs, and traditions of other peoples' with customs like this? I'll refer to those who shun and laugh at a tradition of Native Americans, who used to perform what was called the "Sun Dance." People danced, shouted, prayed, and even caused themselves pain. People sometimes pierced their stomachs or backs and tore off skin. It was almost torture. Torture, like what my ears went through during the pep rally?
This was essentially a rite of passage. I didn't participate as much as others, because I felt it had no merit. I am in school to get A's, acquire skills, and finally receive a diploma. That is it. I don't go to have my pep rallied or to show my school spirit. I go because I need to, because I have to.
The whole event has scarred me, but at the same time enlightened me. I'm hoping it was the only one this year (Knock on wood).

Just some thoughts,

Tyler

What ways do you learn best?

Today you are going to work on a learning styles questionnaire.

First, you will answer all of the questions;
second, submit you answers;
third, print off the results;
then, click on the link for "Learning Style Descriptions."

When you have read over your learning style descriptions, consider whether or not you feel these descriptions are true. Write a COMMENT to this posting by clicking on the 'comments' button. Do NOT post your own post. You may read over other student's answers. In your response tell me whether you 1-) feel as though the learning style you were deemed is accurate; 2-) did any of the suggestions as to how to 'help yourself' make you think "Hey, that's an idea, I will try that!"

Here is the site http://www.engr.ncsu.edu/learningstyles/ilsweb.html. Cut and paste it in.

I scored a 7 as an active learner. I think this has changed for me over the years. I think I used to be a more reflective learner, but now I seem to have to do something to actually keep it in my head. I think the suggestions for this one are okay-but I still find I am much more comfortable studying by myself.

I scored a 9 for being intuitive. Hmm. I supppose as an English teacher, this doesn't suprise me too much-I love to analyze and see the Big Picture. :-) I am not much for little details.

I scored a 3 for verbal. This is a suprise for me. I am not sure if this is from reading too many little kid books or what, but I do like to see diagrams and I like to be shown outlines and overviews. However, I would have thought I was more of a verbal learner.

Lastly, I scored a 5 for global. This doesn't suprise me too much, although I would have thought I would have had a stronger score for global, I don't tend to do things in order. Although, once again, as I get older I seem to need to do things in order or I forget to do them! Summer Assignments--ahhh!

I found this survery to be interesting. I do think the suggestions are a bit helpful (hence me making YOU do it), but I think we should keep in mind that somedays we lean more towards one type of learning, other days towards another . . . and that is okay. I found it interesting to learn of new ways to learn!

Enjoy! Have a wooonderful weekend!

Burmese Protests

The British Broadcasting Corporation has been giving a good amount of coverage on recent happenings in Burma. Recently, the government increased the price of fuel, oil, and deisel by 2-5 times. In response to this, citizens protested. One paceful protest was subdued by armed Burmese government militants. Now, monks are protesting for peace, and are preaching against the government and leading the protesters. More recently, another group of people were shot at by Burmese militants and a Japanese man was killed.

A civil war would seem to be coming up in Burma. In is interesting to compare the actions of different cultures in response to difference. In the Middle East, bloodshed and fighting would seem to be the ultimate end. In Burma, however, peaceful protesters voice their opinions in spite of the oppressive government. If the Burmese happenings do not escalate to mutual, physical, conflict, it could mean several things. On one hand, it could mean that the government has succeeded in imposing fear and obedience on its people. On the other hand, if a comprimise is reached without a war, it would be more than just a deal between the people and the government. Such a comprimise would symbolize the rise of a more peaceful, sophisticared human race. If both sides recognize the consqeunces of violent proceedings, then perhaps there is hope for more smooth future comprimises in the world. Burma would be setting a good example for the rest of the world, and maybe everyone would see their own conflicts in a different light. Except those Chinese communist dogs. Just kidding.

News Story

One topic in the news that has caught my eye recently is the housing market at the moment. The price of houses have continued to fall at a rapid rate, making it a buyers market, and giving a terrible position to the seller. This is great for some one who is looking to buy a house, but it is very bad for the seller and the realtor. Realtor's across the country are losing their jobs, and the one's who still have their jobs are not making relatively close to what they used to. This is also leading into the increasing rate of foreclosures on home's across America. This is a huge problem for any family across the country, including single parent families, and the lowerclass's trying to make ends meet as it is. The people labeled as "High Risk Borrower's" are the one's who are going first, this in turn will lead to a chain of event's in which the bank's and mortgage companies will eventually lose in the end. This is because of the value of the houses, which most often go up, but will not get even close to it's value from the buyer because of the rapidly decreasing price of housing. Although law makers are trying to straighten this problem out, it is up to the mortgage companies and banks to see it through and get things not back to normal, but in a stronger, less vulnerable position, in which it could never happen again.

Mahmoud Amedinejad

The Iranian president, Mahmoud Amedinejad, spoke today in New York. Based on the absence of details about his speech, nothing he said during it was ground breaking. Apparently, however, he believes that the holocaust is a myth and Israel should be wiped off the map.

Call me a traitor, but personally, I like this man. Don't get me wrong, I think he is full of... But he is uniting the American people in a way our president couldn't. If we can't love together, at least we can hate together (The American way). Despite the fact that some people are still taking this and somehow depicting it as some evil plan of such and such a political party, most of the Americans seem to hate this man. I don't like what Amedinejad stands for, but I like what he unintentionally causes (Partially): A bonding of Americans, a highlighting of what remains of American nationalism. Besides the whole unifying thing, he has a cool first name. Come on. Mahmoud.

It was interesting to see some of the signs protesting his speech in New York.

The fact that he has an entourage including his own personnal ambulance is saying something.

Missing Summer

I've been thinking about how to answer the question during the lazy hours when I couldn't figure out how to post. My friends and I have been talking about the summer a lot, since school has only recently started and we're just starting to get used to our classes.

I'm going to miss a lot of things. I'm going to miss the lazy days when my friends are away on vacation and I don't feel like moving. I'm going to miss the kids that I took care of while I was a CIT at Emma Willard's GirlSummer and at Dykon Pond camps. I'm going to miss going to Summerfest with four of my friends, finding boys with the most amazing mohawks ever, and using all of our shakey courage just to ask, "...Can I have a picture of your hair?" I'm going to miss going to Slow Jed's with 2-10 of my friends just to hang out, talk about the weirdest topics and walking to Jiffe to get snacks after we finished our coffee. Then, of course, seeing random people at Jiffe, talking for two minutes, and then ditching them to walk back across the street. I'm going to miss seeing my friends ten plus times a week and not seeing them. I'm going to miss the lazy mornings where I was allowed to slowly wake up and the sleep overs until 7 in the morning... then doing it all again the next day. I'm also going to miss the ultimate procrastinations.

This is going to sound really cliche and strange, but I guess when I think of summer, I think of the freedom to be a kid. When you're in school, things are expected of you. "Do your homework." "Go to class." In summer, there aren't any rules besides have fun, don't get (yourself or) anyone killed and be a kid.

Despite the feeling that summer is slipping away too fast, I'm sort of happy that school is here. I get to meet new (and very nice) teachers, possibly learn a little, make new friends, catch up with the old ones... and see a show at the Washington Avenue Armory in December with my best friend.

I did it!!!

This is Alison Schaefer from block 6.....I actually figured out how to do this! (with much help from your handy little to-do guide, Tyler...) haha I feel so proud :)

i figured it out

i finally figured how to get on...now i just have to figure out how to answer the questions!!!

ajfd?

Does my ajfd test work?

Navigating Ms. Gaboury's Blog

Hey there.

I'm Tyler, from Ms. Gaboury's block 6 English class. I've constructed this guide for two purposes:

1. To save other people the trouble of going through what I did.
2. To test the picture I loaded to my profile.

Click on one of these sections to go directly to it, or just browse.
Table of Contents
1. Account Creation
2. The Dashboard
3. Manipulating a Post

1. Account Creation

Ms. Gaboury's blogpage requires that you have a google email account and that you be invited by Ms. Gaboury herself. To create a google account, go to google.com and press on gmail. From here, you will need to make an account with the requested information. Once Ms. Gaboury sends you the invite, you check your email on your google account. You should, if Ms. Gaboury sent you the invite, have an email from her with an invitation url enclosed. Copy the url described and paste it into the browser's url window(A browser is a program from which you view the contents of the vast Internet. A common browser is Internet Explorer.) Below is the email I received. Circled in red is the url you need to copy and paste.

<--- Paste the URL into this search window bar thingy

When you copy and paste it, a window should pop up asking for your google account name and password. Feed it the information (Note: I haven't tested tried not doing it, but I always use (account name)@gmail.com. Now you're in! This brings us to our next area, the dashboard.

2. The Dashboard

The dashboard is your window to other blogs. On it you can edit your profile, account, settings, and posts. You can also create your own blogs, post on others blogs, and view various other things from blogspot.com. I will now show the various functions of the dashboard. Below is my dashboard. Circled in red is my profile: My name, picture, and link (I don't have one) as well as the options to "Edit Profile" and go to "My Account." Circled in blue in a link entitled "View Blog." If you click on it, you will go to the displayed blog. In my case, it is Ms. Gaboury's English Classes blog. Finally, circled in green is the almighty "New Post" link. We'll start by how to use that link. (See under picture)

If you pressed on that new post button you will be brought to a window fairly familiar to anyone who has ever been on forums or blogs. There is a spot for the title of your post, a link spot, and the almighty text space. The title and contents of your post will be visible from Ms. Gaboury's blogpage, which can be accessed by clicking on the View Blog button (circled in blue above). Using the various tools in the post window provided by blogspot, you can make cool effects like THis or add links and pictures, like I've done above. You can even show a movie. Anyway, I will now go over the editing of one's profile.

If you press on Edit Profile from the dashboard, you will get a list of information all about you (isn't it great). You can post a neat picture, a video, your own homepage, a wishlist, and much more. Thanks blogspot. Anyway, I'll get to the cool stuff (pictures). To get a picture, the easiest way is to go to a search engine like google.com and search under the image tab whatever it is you want your picture to be of. I searched "Duck" and now my profile sports that dazzlingly handsome mandarin duck. But Tyler, how did you get that dazzlingly handsome duck to appear on your blog profile? Just click on the picture when you get all of those silly thumbnails and hotlink to it by clicking on the picture again at the top of the window you are forwarded to. Then, when it is just the picture you see, copy the url and paste it into the available space. Save your profile and BOOM! Mandarin Duck. Or whatever. I haven't bothered with videos yet, but if I do, I'll update the guide. EDIT: I figured it out. Just go to a url where the video is playing. Copy and paste the link into the provided space. There will now be an option to go to an audio clip when you view your profile. Pressing on it will link to the page and the video will start playing or will wait to be started by the viewer.

One more thing about the dashboard. If you press on View Blog, you are brought to that blog. To get back to the almighty dashboard, click on a small sprite (that's geek for icon) in the top-left of your screen. This concludes the dashboard section.

3. Manipulating a Post

So you've got the gist, now you have cast your evil eye to the buttons above a post. Below is a picture of this very post, and I have circled some key buttons. Basically, these buttons make the job of making a pretty post a heck of a lot easier for anyone that doesn't know HTML coding (Which I am going to assume is most of the people who view this post). If you look below, circled in green are, in order, Font Style, Font Size, Bold, Italic, and Font Color. These are fairly self explanatory, so go nuts, but ask questions if you need to. In red are formatting options. These should remind you of Microsoft Word. They determine from which margin your text starts. In blue is the option to insert a picture. Here is how to get a picture.

Okay, first press on the button circled in blue above. This will bring you to a window that may or may not be overwhelming. Really it is simple. There should be two areas where you can type stuff. The first is under something that says Add an image from your computer and the second says "Or Add an image from the web." To add one from the web, use the same concept from how you got a picture into your profile. Type in the url of the picture into the text space, check the small box on the bottom that says something like "I agree with your terms," and press UPLOAD IMAGE. Then press done. To get one from your computer, press Browse and then sift through the folders to find the image you want. Press OK on the one you want, then check the terms of agreement box and upload the image. Then press done. Some other things, before we get onto manipulating the picture on the page... You can choose where you want your picture. You can align it to the left, right, or in the center. If you align it left or right, the text you type before it will display an effect we HTML geeks call "float." Basically, the text will wrap around the picture. You can also make the image smaller or larger on the right of the window. Once you have loaded the image, it will be at the very top of your post. To move it, click on it and hold the mouse button. Release it where you want it. This may take a couple tries.

Watch this tutorial to learn how to make a video and get it on blogspot. This took a while to make, but it should work. It lags a little, so the audio is sometimes behind the actual video. Make sure you save it as a .avi file.

That concludes the guide. I hope everyone enjoys it, and more importantly the blog gets going. I would like to give credit to Pagetutor's html guide and the 9th grade teachers for giving a small amount of homework allowing for this page to be made.

is this working!

yes!!

Forever

It only took me forever, but i'm finally here.

Just makin' sure it works.

And I'm prettysure it does.

Summer

Yes, we're back now. Now we have to actually work and we can't say, "i'll just hold it off until tomorrow." I will really miss sleeping in. (I am not a morning person, to say the least:-) I am really going to miss the fact that it is light for longer in the summer. It makes me depressed when it gets dark so early. I love the rain and playing in it, now the rain is cold. But school is cool, we see our friends.

Test

This is a test.
testing

hello?

hello is anyone there?

Test

Nate is the coolest person ever...... =]

Test

The next student government meeting is on Wednesday, October 17th. It is not too late to become part of something. If you were not unconcious at the speech presented by the person from Sienna College, then you know they admire leadership and consider it a great plus if you are applying for a scholarship. You need one year at least of being in the student government to run for an office such as president or treasurer. The meeting will, most likely, be in the cafeteria. Go to room 153A (There is a map in your assignment book) to find out more.

FRANKIE

frankie is cooler than nate will ever be!!! =]

September Joys

As the summer begins to come to an end and thoughts of classes return, I tend to get excited about home-baked meals and fresh cookies from the oven. I love to smell the autumn leaves and to burn a candle in the living room. I love the warmth of my fireplace and the sense of home when everyone is in for the day and relaxing together in the living room either reading or watching TV.

But I do feel sadness for the loss of morning and evening light. I crave the sun all year long and love the summer hours of light and warmth from the sun. I miss barbecues. I know I will miss the idea of staying up late and getting up early, and I despise going out at night in the fall and winter. I will miss having a cup of coffee on my porch, listening to the world wake up and watching my girls begin to explore the world. I will miss fireflies and open windows. I will miss complaining about how hot it is and just being home with my girls, my boys, my husband and my home. I will miss my boys because my oldest is in Nicaragua and my youngest is at U of Rochester.

However, I do love what I do and I look forward to a new batch of freshmen walking through my door. I love teaching Fahrenheit 451 for the first time. Again. I love watching To Kill A Mockingbird be absorbed. Again and again. I love the visits from my old students and even seeing some of my fellow teachers! ;-) I look forward to getting to know all new students and possibly helping them to clarify who they are and what direction they want to head towards.

What will you miss? What do you look forward to?
