I feel very strongly about the issue of censorship. Yes, it can apply when dealing with very dangerous sercurity issues or weapons. However, when applied to everyday items such as entertainment media, it is never okay. People have very different point of views and what is appropriate for some to see may not be for others, but that is the only wat we can grow. If people are shielded from the world their whole lives they will only sink into a supremely bad state of being as the world opens up before them and all this mess becomes apparent. People need to experience these things and become aware of them as they grow, coming to accept each as a way of life if they truely want to mature. Nobody should be able to force their opinion of what is and isnt okay for poeple to see upon anyone else. These products are made with a specific audience in mind and it is not fair that someone can stick their head in and get an uninformed glimpse into that culture, then decide it is wrong and alienate all the people living within there. All censorship is caused because of ignorance of an issue. Some examples of this include the burning of many books and people for witchcraft, the persecution of jews, hatred towards swear words, as they are only words and can do no more harm to someone than what you are reading right now($#@!), and the more recent bannings of movies and games such as a video game called Mass Effect, which has a deep story to it and contains fairly tame homosexual sex scenes to advance relationships of the characters. Controversies and ignorance spring out at the mere notion of something that is considered a taboo by certain people and it really needs to stop. We have more important issues at hand, (like that war or something where people are being brutally killed everyday), fretting over things like this is a time waster and people need to get off their high horse and see where other people are coming from. People may say that some things people should be protected from, and that is fine, but it is up to the parents of children, not any kind of political or religious institution, to decide that. Life is not pleasant, so why are people trying to keep an illusion of a perfvect world? It is because they are scared, they want to ignore things like poverty and starvation so they can live in peace. All I have to say is "Wake up, you can never silence people and their ideas, as long as free will remains."
