In light of Eliot Spitzer's scandal, when we consider our leaders and heroes, is it wrong to hold them to a higher level of expectation than everyone else? Should leaders and heroes have a private life? Should what happens in a public figure's life mandate whether or not that person is fit to govern or take a leadership role?
In the same vein, should teachers take into consideration a student's home life and private life when figureing grades and how to treat a student in class?

I think we should hold leaders at a higher level. I mean seriously they are in control of us! They need to be a good role model for people of all ages. It is okay for leaders to have a private life to an extent. Of course, there are some things that are going to happen in a leader/heroes life that they don't want the people to know about but when it is dealing with their money then there is no excuse. What happens in a public figure's life should absolutely mandate whether or not they are fit to take a leadership role. It is pretty unreasonable that the situation with eliot spitzer was not discovered and taken care of soon after it started happening.
I think teachers should consider a child's home life to some extent. If a child is having a rough time with their parents or trouble at home then their work probably would not be up to standard, where as a child whos parents support and help them with their school work.. their grades will be great. But then there is also the fact that we're not little kids any more and we have to take responsibility and if we fail a quiz or something its our fault and only our fault. Of course you're going to have a bad day every once in a while so then I do think that a teacher should be a little leanient.
I think that it isnt wrong to hold our leaders at a higher level of expectation because they are responsible for our country. They have to be good role models for everyone in our society. I think it is fine for leaders to have a private life as long as they arent doing something that would risk their standings and could have them lose their respect from others. I also think that what happens in the leaders lives should to an extent mandate whether or not that person is fit to lead. For instance if a person is participating in illegal activites (elliot spitzer..) then they can't try to shut down that very same thing that they are involved with just to look like they are doing a good job. It's hyporcritical and wrong. A good leader needs to be able to be responsible in both their private and public life.
I think that teachers should consider students private life when grading because it could be very hard for certain students to get their work done when the private life is a mess. Yes, a majority of people's home/private lives are fine, but there is always a few children that have problems that really disrupt what they need to do to suceed. What could be going on in their private life is most likely not their fault so when graded, the teachers should think about that. They should try to help the student as much as possible, so the child can suceed even though their private life may be tough.
I believe that this scandal is very bad for not just New York, but America. The fact that milk is $4 a gallon, and Spitzer could have spent up to $80,000 of our tax money does not bode well with most. Leaders of this level are always in the eye of the public. Their actions are often times seen and criticized. They should abide by everything they stand for, and not become hippocratic (like Spitzer). With great power comes great responsibility. Spitzer thinking that because he is Governor of this great state gives him the right to interact in illegal activities (especially activity he has attempted to clean up). It is more than that, the principle of the matter is what blows me away the most. The man has a family, and for him to do something like that is ridiculous. The example he set, and is giving off for the rest of the world to see is a very bad one. His wife was obviously distraut, and I very much hope that she divorces him like he deserves. I also believe that all of the jail time he gets, he deserves. For any man to be involved with prostitutes is ludicrous, but for a Governor of New York, or in any level of politics, it is beyond forgivable. I believe the situation will become worse in the days to come. Client #9 is a clear example of the corruption amongst our politicians.

I think it is right to hold leaders to a higher standard of expectation. They are leaders of our country. They set examples for everyone in the country. I think that leaders should have a private life. They should still have to follow the law, but they should get a chance to have a private life. I think that if someone does something illegal, in their private or public life, they shouldn't be allowed to have a government job.
I think that teachers SHOULD take into account a person's private life. If there is a death in someone's family, or something like that, the person should get some leway. I think it's only fair to do it that way.

We should hold them to higher levels because there suppose to be better then us because we want a good leader not a hypocrite. Because then why are we not in office because we can do the same thing they should be doing better then us. They should have some what of a private life but not a huge won and if they do something like Elliot Spitzer they should be kicked out of office. They should be judge on what they do outside because when there out side office there like everyone else and should be treated like everyone else.
Teachers should not take into consideration a students home life because it is there home life and student should be graded for there school life because that us what they are paid to do grade on school not on because some students are a lot different outside of school inside of school. If most kids are graded on outside of school most would fail because kids do stupid stuff in and out of school but more stupid stuff outside of school.
I dont think it is wrong to hold our officials to high standards. thay are supposed to set examples for us. Elliot Spitzer promoted prostitution and adultery. I think that they shouldnt havea private life that is much different than there public life becuase when they go to tell you to do something they could by lieing to your face. These people could be completely hypocritical and that is not right. They should practice what they preach.
As far as teachers go and students, i think it could go both ways. Many students i see are the "teacher's pet" and get grood grades when they dont deserve them. Yet you can find out a few days later that these kids are on drugs and live a sc*m bag life. I also think that it is none of the teachers buisness and if kids are getting good grades then they deserve them no matter what they act like. If they work hard in school yet have a bad home life they still deserve to get the grades they work for.
I think everyone should be entitled to their own private life no matter what they are involved in our where they come from. what someone does in their private life should be kept private. If someone chooses to let their private life affect their public/working life....thats their choice and they are willingly allowing everyone to hear and comment about it and they then lose the right to complain when they are judged on it.
