Poetry of Life

Pretty much, I think this quote is one of the coolest I have ever read. I mean, I see quotes a lot. Some catch my eye, some don't. Some speak to me, some don't. Usually, even if I don't like the quote so much, I sit back and I think about it. Maybe I read it outloud, mumble it a bit to myself... break it apart. This one just flows.

"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion." It's true. We don't do it because it's cute (well, I don't anyway. If I thought it was cute, I would have gotten all the dudes long ago... kidding). We do it because we want people to see things from different points of view. We do it so we can get out our ideas on everything so we can just live in the moment, live for the passion.

"But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for." It's true. I believe in true love. That may sound really corny and totally off topic, but it's totally true. True love is one thing that we live for. Just finding that one person that can make our world shine. That's what I want. There's beauty in everything. When I get sad, I try to find the beauty in something to focus all my energy on. Last night, I was riding in the car and I just looked into the sky and watched. I wasn't watching for anything in particular, it just sort of fit with the music. It's just that stars calm me down. ("It's just that pretending calms me down"-A Softer World) If you find something that's pretty (not just some boy or girl) and really focus on it, you forget about everything that's wrong. Or, I do anyway.

"That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse." Wake up. Figure out that you can change something. I would talk to my friends about something that would happen in Iraq or Uganda and they would just look at me and not even have an ounce of emotion. I would ask them why. They would say, "Because I don't like getting myself depressed about things that have nothing to do with me." Seriously? It has everything to do with you. You shouldn't just worry about what's going on right outside your door.

Pretty much my life goals aren't to get famous. They're not to be a billionaire. I just want to be happy that I'm alive. All those little moments when you're a teenager where you know where you are, you know who you are and you know what you're doing... I want that when I'm fifty. Writing a best seller novel would be kick arse too. I also want to make a difference. Genocide needs to stop. Right now. Just stop killing your own people. That would be pretty good too.

(So this isn't a "verse" persay... but it sums up everything that being alive for me... currently... is about. It may be lame and no one may read it because it's by Pete Wentz, but no one really gives him credit for how intelligent and original he is. Everyone just thinks he's a hawtee. Check out the inside before the outside.)
"Here's to the kids. The kids who would rather spend their night with a bottle of whiskey & Patrick or Sonny playing on their headphones than go to some vomit-stained high school party. Here's to the kids whose 11:11 wish was wasted on one person who will never be there for them. Here's to the kids whose idea of a good night is sitting on the hood of a car, watching the stars. Here's to the kids who never were too good at life, but still were wicked cool. Here's to the kids who listened to Fall Out Boy and Hawthorne Heights before they were on MTV...and blame MTV for ruining their life. Here's to the kids who care more about the music then the haircuts. Here's to the kids who have crushes on a stupid lush. Here's to the kids who hum "A Little Less 16 Candles A Little More Touch Me" when they're stuck home, dateless, on a Saturday night. Here's to the kids who have ever had a broken heart from someone who didn't even know they existed. Here's to the kids who have read The Perks of Being A Wall Flower & didn't feel so alone after doing so. Here's to the kids who spend their days in photobooths with their best friend. Here's to the kids who are straight up smartasses & just don't care. Here's to the kids who speak their mind. Here's to the kids who consider screamo their lullaby for going to sleep. Here's to the kids who second-guess themselves on everything they do. Here's to the kids who will never have 100 percent confidence in anything they do, and to the kids who are okay with that. Here's to the kids. This one's not for the kids, who always get what they want, But for the ones who never had it at all. It's not for the ones who never got caught, But for the ones who always try and fall. This one's for the kids who didnt make it, We were the kids who never made it. The Overcast girls and the Underdog Boys. Not for the kids who had all their joys. This one's for the kids who never faked it. We're the kids who didn't make it. They say "Breaking hearts is what we do best," And, "We'll make your heart be ripped of your chest" The only heart that I broke was mine, When I got My Hopes up too too high. We were the kids who didnt make it. We are the kids who never made it." (here's to us)"-Pete Wentz
