I'm sorry I'm so late with this post, when I tried to publish the post I wrote in class the computer deleted it. So, in light of this event I've decided to write about the computer, opposed to my original topic, which was my room.
It is very sleek, a silver-chrome color that makes one want to touch it to see how smooth it really is. The large, slightly rectangular screen is black, and moves to accommodate people of different heights. This first glance is deceiving; there are scratches and dark silver pencil marks on the seemingly flawless computer. The monitor screen is not as hospitable as it first appeared, it is just waiting to get the person that tries to adjust it and pushes it just a little too hard. Waiting for that one slightly preoccupied, careless student to break it. It is just waiting to crack, knowing that it being broken will hurt you more than it will hurt it. It is out to get YOU. It is just waiting, eager to get revenge for all the smudges and dirt and fingerprints that people have left from rudely poking and prodding it.
That is not all though, one might feel intimidated by so many buttons, that could either help you, or might cause one to delete the paper that took one 35 minutes to write. There are a multitude of wires leading out from the back of the computer to unknown, mysterious outlets and various complex attachments. I pity the unsuspecting student who accidentally knocks one of these long twisting, snake-like wires out of the plug. It would take at least an hour to figure out where the wire belonged. Even longer to find out if the assignment that the student had been working on was saved before the screen turned a foreboding black and the computer fan stopped making that annoying hum. However, there are multiple ways of losing important papers on the computer. One might have even finished a paper and was trying to post it on an internet blog, when suddenly a screen pops up that says there was an error. That the "publish post" button that you trustfully pushed has lied and betrayed you, it has not published. One might try in vain to press the green hope-inspiring back button. The page finally loads to an empty post form, your heart sinks at the thought of the 35 minutes you wasted just to create the blank page that seems to laugh and do a victory dance at your complete frustration. Your day worsens at the the thought of spending another 35 minutes trying to recall what you wrote in the post that was deleted. The tiny pestering voice in the back of your head tells you that this new post, no matter how hard you try, no matter how long you struggle, will never be as good as the post that the spiteful, deceiving, day-worsening computer has deleted. And, though you want to be your normal optimistic self, you know that irritating, whiny voice is probably right. Computers. You can't live with them, and you can't live without them.
