On a Island..

First of all... I think that it would be awesome to live on an island... for a little while at least.
Steph and I have a plan to go on great adventures when we are 21. So, on our way home, maybe we could plan to jump out of the plane and live on an island!!! What do you think Steph??

I would want to live on an island with a lot of trees for shelter, plants for food, and a lot of different animals. I would want to bring another outfit, lots of matches for making fires, and my kitties because I don't think that I could live without their cute faces. Obviously, I would to be stranded with Steph just because she has such a positive outlook on everything. We would build an awesome tree house and go swimming everyday. We would lay out under the stars, and for once experience in full the great world of beauty in which we live. After a month or so, I think that I would want to be rescued because I would miss my family and other friends too much.

I think that living on an island would change anyone's personality. I hope that it would make me appreciate things more, like having a warm house and luxuries like TV!!! I also hope that it would make me more creative with using my resources.

My Best Friend Spalding

Well if i was going to be trapped on an island and only could bring three things i would bring a lighter, a chicken, and a Spalding volley ball. a lighter because trying to start a firer with two sticks is not fun and it gives you a ton of blisters. a chicken because they make eggs which are delicious and eventually i would eat the chicken, mmmmmmmm chicken. and i would bring a Spalding volley ball because if Hollywood has taught us anything it is that in this situation a ball becomes your best friend. and it would be a Spalding because i know that no matter how close you get to Wilson they will eventually float away in the ocean causing you to leave your raft and almost die.

If i got to bring someone with me it would be Tom Hanks. this is an obvious choice because lets face it hes been through this before, he knows what he is doing. Sure he is a little depressing and likes to take out teeth with ice skates but he would be good to have around. If given the choice to remain on the island or go back to civilization i would go back. my reason is that i would get a bit tired to Tom Hanks he seems like the clingy type. i mean you saw how close he got to a ball imagine how he would be to a thing that could talk back.

while there i would probably miss technology. Mainly my bed. i have slept outside before and it is not fun. this experience would change me a lot. it would teach me to be more independent and resourceful. also i would stop liking Tom Hanks and the show survivor because i know that in the real world Jeff Probst doesn't give you food and blankets if you can eat something disgusting.

Stranded on an island, eh?

I HATE THIS QUESTION! Sorry, but I really do dislike this type of question. If you are stranded on an island, why in the world would you have a choice of items to bring? And why bring only 3?????? I myself would try and cram as much as I could into a bag. But how would you know that you were being stranded? That's not the sort of thing you can plan ahead for.

I suppose I would like to try and live like the Swiss Family Robinson (not that I've ever read the book) but only if there were ample supplies on the island and if there were other people who I am willing to live with with me. But which specific people? I have no idea who I can trust right now, so I'll just hope that I'm stranded with some relatively nice people who I'm not too involved with. Otherwise, I would just use the giant burning 5000-foot signal that I would inevitably bring with me to get the heck off that island. If no one saw it, I would just use the bad-futuristic-movie teleporter (one of the other things that I would bring) to go back home or at least into a nice restaurant on the right continent.

Shipwrecked on..... The Island!

If I were stranded on an a deserted island I would want a radio, so that I'd know what was happening on the outside world (and possibly communicate with them). Then again I might not want to know what was going on if I couldn't be a part of any of it, who knows. I would definitely want the radio to listen to music, which would also prevent me from going crazy. The second thing I would bring is a large hatchet or knife (or a set of them), which would be very useful for making shelters. I could use it to cut open food, or sharpen sticks to catch food or make a fire. The third thing I would bring, if I had the option, is a journal and an art set (including lots of colored pencils, a really good sharpener, an eraser, markers, pens, regular pencils, paint, and paint brushes), so I could draw, paint etc., and keep track of the days and what happened during my time on....THE ISLAND!

If the island was relatively friendly and I could bring only one person with me it would be my mommy. I love my mom, she is very practical, and doesn't panic easily. She would be really helpful in solving any problems on the island. If I could bring more than one person I would probably bring my sister and my friend Bridget, primarily because they are some of the few people I would be able to live with without killing.

If the island was very dangerous, I would bring someone I strongly dislike (I'm trying not to be a hateful person), like Frank. No, not really he isn't that bad, but I would bring George Bush. Then I would go to the opposite side of the island, so that, theoretically, when people came to rescue me they wouldn't find him. We could get lucky and never see him again!

It would be nice to not have the ordinary responsibilities. All I would have to worry about would be starving, or getting struck by lightening, or eaten by wild lions, tigers, and bears, or stung by killer bees, or bitten by a poisonous spider, or eaten by an anaconda.... but really it would be nice to be away from ordinary life. I think I would appreciate the things that I, and most Americans, take for granted, clean water, food, a place to stay. Also, I think I would appreciate my time more if I didn't have any idea what would happen from one day to the next. However, I would want to be rescued eventually. I would miss the rest of my friends and family, and probably all the conveniences of ordinary life. Overall it would probably be a very good, educational experience, but "there's no place like home".

Deserted in an Island...

If I were stranded on a deserted island I probably wouldn't have the choice of what to bring or who to bring. There would have been some catestrophic event in which I landed on this island. But if given the choice...

Three items, only three items?...That is hard to choose! Probably a radio, this would give me music and news, although maybe I wouldn't want to hear what was going on in the outside world. I would also want some type of ax for chopping down trees to make a shelter or a boat and it could also be used for self defense (if need be). My third item would be a journal, so I could write what was going on. Writing calms me down, and it would help me when I'm lonely, or when I miss home. How would I write you ask? I always have a pen or pencil in my journals...come on, it isn't cheating.

It is hard to pick one person I would want to bring. I mean, do I pick my best friend Madi, who I know I would have the best time with?...or do I bring my mom, who always seems to find a solution to any problem, even the worst ones? Maybe I should bring Matt McFadden or Will Feldhuisen, because they are two of the smartest people I know and they would probably find the best way to get us out of there, or just survive. Well I guess if I had to pick, I'd pick Tarzan, because he knows how to live in the wild and he could help me the most.

I would probably want to be rescued evenutually... But the excitement of being on the island would occupy me for about a month. The adventures I could have...the lessons I would learn...it would be an insane experience to say the least. I would probably not care as much how I looked, and I'd apprieciate the simple things more. Food, a warm bed, and even going to school! I'd be a stronger person too, both physically and mentally. But let's just hope I don't get stranded on a deserted island...because we all know, I'd be hopeless. =)

Katie Schultz

If I had to bring three items while I was lost on an island, I would bring a swiss army knife, a first aid kit, and a picture of my family. The swiss army knife would be for hunting small animals and carving tools with stick to hunt larger animals. The first aid kit is obviously for first aid, if i am hurt in any way. The picture of my family would remind me of hope so i wouldn't give up and i would still try to get back home. About people... well i already wrote that I would bring a picture of my family so I don't think that they would be coming, also I would not want to have to make them be stuck with me. I think that I would bring my dog so that I could teach him to sniff and track people and find help would also teach hime to hunt, and many other thingss. I think that I would want to be rescued so I could seemy family and friends again and eat some chocolate and other good that I like. Obviously I would try to live like the swiss family robinson's untill someone found me and I got rescued. I would want some kind of radio or walkie talkie like the one that they have on lost, but I would want it to work. I think that this experience would teach me to appreciate what I have and to not take things for granted.

Lost On the Island of Hawaii

If I was lost on the island of Hawaii I would my bestest friend Ryan. Ryan and I chill together about every weekend and we would go to Hawaii and chill together.
I would bring a extra pair of clothes so I don't have to wear the same clothes all the time. I would also bring madddddd money. I would bring madddddd money so I could buy madddddd stuff. I would also bring a laptop with a internet conection card cause I'm a losser and need a computer also i would bring a chrager with it so i could use it madddddd long time.
I would stay on Hawaii cause its like America but different and its madddddd chill. I think it would change me cause I"ll never want to leave and I stay there and chill. So I'm going to get lost on the madddddd chill island of Hawaii.
Peace Homes.

island

If i was stranded on an island and i could take three things i would bring my favorite book so i wouldnt get bord, flint so i could start a fire, and a whole bunch of pens and paper so i could write down the things i saw and did. I would want to be trapped on the island with my dog because he could get his own food and hes really cute. I would also want to be there with my dad or grandpa because they both know alot about how to survive in the wild. Eventually i would want someone to rescue me, but i think it would be fun to spend so time there first. If i had to choose between having technology or not having it im pretty sure i wouldnt want it because it would ruin the experience. If this ever really happened to me, i think it would mostly change how much i value the people and things close to me.

Stranded without an Ipod?!?!?! O.O

When I read this I laughed because I don't think there is one person alive who didn't ask themselves this question as a kid. From childhood movies like Tarzan and The Swiss family Robinson were really enjoyable.
Lost on an island and I can only bring a few things? To be smart I would say...Food, Shelter and fresh water. To be honest If i were lost on an island I would want some source of food or some way to get it like a bow and a fishing pole. Then I would want a tent or some form of shelter. Lastly I would bring a hand powered water filter if the water is salty. If it's not then a cell phone to call someone to rescue me. If I had all of these I could survive for a long time. If I could choose people it would have to bring my group of friends (about 16 people) and my family. I don't think I'd last long alone. I'm kinda sick and tired of school so to stranded might be fun. I would definitely try and live like the Swiss family Robinson until i get rescued. I would want some technology. Maybe a solar powered battery cell so i can use outlets and have some use of electricity. I think that I would become jacked from working so much and mentally would become a survivor. I might become hardened in the inside.

On an Island

If I was stranded on an island I would bring my family and pets (not the fish they probly would die). Also I would bring some food just in case, some bottles of water and mabey some rope.

I would bring my family well i dont think i have to tell you. I would not wan to get resued because this society has to many probles as it is. I would restart and make the island a better place.

I think this experience would change me and many people for the better. I think this because there is no bad infulences on a lost island. Mabey there will be island people to create my own society.

Lost

If I was abandoned on an island I would bring a swiss army kife because you can do a lot of things with it that would be useful. Also I would bring a first aid kit so that I could have something for cuts and stuff. Lastly I would bring toothpaste because I wouldn't be ble to eat if I didn't have any teeth. I would want the one other person with me to be my best friend because it would help to make the stay seem not as long. While I was there I would want to live Swiss Family Robinson's style because it would be safer and more comfortable. I would live like that until I had the chance to go home. Then I would leave and go see all of the people I missed.

desert island

If I was stranded on an island it would be really hard to decide what I would bring with me. I would probablly bring pictures of my friends and family that way I could have memories of everybody if I never got back. I would probabbly also bring a glove and ball so i could have something to do. The last thing I would bring is my cell phone so I could call someone for help. Even though it would probabbly lose battery quickly. The first person I would bring is my mom and my sister-in-laws. I would probbably also bring my cousin Lindsay. Just me and the girls. I think it would be really fun if I brought them and we would be really close so it wouldnt be awkward. I think it would be good to get away from this society and be on an island for a while. It would be kind of like a secret getaway with the girls. I would get a tan, go swimming, and just hang out for a while before I would want to be rescued. I wouldnt want any technology with me. It would be good to just get a way for a while and just be left alone. If this really happened to me, it would change me very much. I would feel very differently about what I have and not take for granted the things that I do have. Since I would bring my family I would also realize how important family is in my life. This experience would be a good one for me. It sounds weird, but I think it would be good to do this.

ISLAND!!!!!!

If i was stranded on an island i would bring razor. I would bring this to shave with and to attck things with for food. I would bring a huge box of matches. I would bring this to start fire so i wouldnt freeze at night and so i could cook some food. I also would bring a first aid kit. I wold bring this because there is a big chance that i or someone else could get hurt. i mean it is wildlife and anything can happen. If i could bring any person with me i would bring my best friend. if i brought my best friend then we could have fun toghther and maybe it wouldnt seem like we were lost. i would deffenitly want to be rescued. i would want to be rescued because who would want to stay and starve themselves and possibly die on an island. I dont think anything is wrong with our society compared to an island with no one and no food. i mean atleast in our soceity you can have food if you have money and most people have money. if i had no other way out i would try to live like the Swiss Family Robinson's. But evently i would deffently want to go home. i would want technolgy like my cell phone and my camera to actually have a life. I think with this experiance i would become harder and could handle more things.

Heroes and Leaders

"Celebrating heroes is a terrific way to remember our won heroic potential. They remind us of how far we can go. How high we can climb." TA Barron

In light of Eliot Spitzer's scandal, when we consider our leaders and heroes, is it wrong to hold them to a higher level of expectation than everyone else? Should leaders and heroes have a private life? Should what happens in a public figure's life mandate whether or not that person is fit to govern or take a leadership role?

In the same vein, should teachers take into consideration a student's home life and private life when figureing grades and how to treat a student in class?

Heros and Leaders

I dont think thats its wrong to hold your heros to a higher expectation then we hold others to. Leaders and heros should have a private life, becuase they are just like you and I, even though we look up to them doesnt mean we should invade their personal lives. Its not right to invde someones personal life, even if they are a leaders or hero to you, because if your hero/leaders personal life is invaded, it could be let out to the public, which means that it could potentionally ruin their lifes....

o ahve more to write, im just out of time.

okaybye.
I think heroes and teachers should have there own personal life because everyone deserves to have privacy...but when your like Eliot Spitzer and spend the states tax money then you don't deserve to have the job you have and have privacy. It be different if it was somedthing different small but spending $80,000 on a call girl is a very large and serious matter. He spent money that people worked hard for and had to pay state taxes with and he goes and spends it on something like that when he is a married man and has 3 kids. And it sucks he did something like this because he was a good governor.

Teachers also should keep students life privete. they shouldn't butt into people's life , not saying they do but in some cases they do. They should also respect peoples grades because other people don't need to know what you got on something without your permission

Thing about the thing

I think that leaders should have their own private life but not a kind of private life that can get them removed from their position, like our Governor(NICE JOB not). Also i think that if they have a criminal private life its not good but it is cool. I mean i have a private ninja life. If you are a leader in something, for example, I'm a Sgt. in the civil air patrol and I'm a leader so i have to take responsibility for my actions, and i would never do anything that would get me removed from my position because its awesome. So really what I'm trying to say is if someones going to get in a high government position they shouldn't ruin it by doing something stupid like Spitzer! So yeah I'm just going to say this, BOW TO ME!!! just kidding, hahahaha! I'm not that kind of leader.

heroes and such

i think higher class people like spitzer should be help to a higher stander to a certain point. Like depending on what happens everybody makes mistakes. but i think some mistakes like the ones spitzer made you can not just forgive. I think leaders and heros should be able to lead a private life.

Heroes and Leaders

Well. No one is perfect. And I don't think that we should penalize our leaders for mistakes that they make in their personal life. And if we hold them high on a pedestal [spelling?] then we'll get ourselves down when they make a mistake and I don't think that it's fair for them. Also, everyone has a private life and what goes on in a leaders private life is none of our business. Everyone has the right to privacy and what they do in their own private life should be none of our concern. And what happens in their private life should not affect our view on if they are fit to govern us or not.
And as for teachers. Yes a teacher should take into consideration what a students home life and private life if like. But that shouldn't affect their grades or how they're treated by the teacher in class. Sure, some kids have it bad and others have it great. And it's nice for a teacher to know what they have to go through everyday, but those things don't and should not affect a students grade.

I Agree with Nate

Leaders should be held at higher expectations. As citizens we have the responsibility to elect someone who we believe we can trust to do their job and if that person we elected doesn't meet expectations then they need to be replaced. I feel that if someone makes mistakes in their personal life then they could make a mistake in government and they either need to fix the problem or leave.Everyone has the right to have a private life and it should be personal to that person. The problem is when the leader breaks the law like anyone else could. No matter who you are, in America there's laws and everyone is under the same amount of jurisdiction. I think that if someone cant control themselves in their private life how can we as citizens trust them as leaders? Were all under the same laws but leaders have a lot of responsibility and when that responsibility isn't met then they should be punished as if they were a regular person. Its different if some worker at McDonald's did the same thing as Spitzer it wouldn't be as bad because not as many people are counting on him to be a leader and his responsibility is less than Spitzers.I think that teachers should only take a little consideration of life home to decide how to treat students in class. If a student has a hard time because his father just died then the teacher should treat the student with a little more care but not to the point that it makes the student uncomfortable. As for grades, a teacher cant change or give a grade that a child doesn't deserve. I think that the teacher can give the student more opportunities to get a higher grade like offering extra credit but besides that when it comes to grades, you get the grade you deserve. Death effectes people of all ages and if someone who's dad just died should be taken a little more mercifully then someone else who has a great life at home. The teacher should give the student some leeway but keep it within limits. Tell the student that he has been given extra time to get work done but if its no completd before this date then he gets a bad grade.

Politics

Leaders and heroes are allowed to have a private life to an extent. This doesnt mean that they should be allowed to use 4,000$ an hour for ...sex. Private lives are acceptable when the actions being performed are not illegal. Other wise I have no complaints. Personally i didnt like Spitzer in the first place and when i saw him doing the equivalent of eating his fadce on national television i knew that he knew he had done wrong. In conclusion i think although having a private life can be dangerous i have no problems with legal activities.

Heroes and Leaders

Usually, when we consider our leaders and heroes, we DO hold them to a higher level of expectation then everybody else. I wouldnt necessaraly say it's "wrong" to hold them to a higher level of expectation than everybody else, but that doesnt mean you should always. I dont think that leaders or heroes should have a private life, but I dont exactly understand what that means. I dont think that what happens in a public figure's life should mandate whether or not that person is capable of governing or taking leadership, unless it is something bad, like Eliot Spitzer's prostitute scandal. I dont think that teachers should take into consideration what a student's homelife is like, but I do agree with that at the same time. I can't really explain why I think that, but, then it would be unfair to the other students who work really hard to get there grades.

Nobody is perfect...

Hmmm... Um... Where to start???? First i should say that i like this one a lot. because it seems to prove a point that a lot of people do not understand. that nobody is perfect. I think a lot of times, it seems like the people we look up to are flawless, and it gives us a sense of security. But things like this make people realise that no matter how many things a person does right, they are still capable of doing things wrong.

but that is just my opinion....

I think that people who are in positions of power are there for a reason and that sometimes they need to be looked up to. Like, when people need to know that they have representation about things they care about. But i do think that sometimes people hold them up too high and forget that they are people too, and that everyone makes mistakes. Now, do i believe that they should get away with making mistakes? absolutely not. what Spitzer did was wrong, and horrible. He deserves that he gets for it, because you cant spend your entire career fighting for something, and then just do what you want when it is convenient for you. You don't get anywhere that way. And i think that Spitzer let a lot of people down. I guess when you are appointed into a position 0f power, you are expected to live up to the name. but i don't know... just random thoughts that pop up into my head...

Seriously, i don't think it is fair to not give anyone a private life. unless they ask for otherwise, (and not just say it, but do stuff to prove they don't want one). Sarah isn't helping me make sense of what i am saying... so if this makes no sense, sorry. (Hello, this is Sarah. So yeah. I'm really out of it. I haven't been sleeping well for the past... WEEK and the past three days have been terrible. So NOTHING makes sense. kthanx)

about the teachers and the students... that one is tough. i think that teachers need to take into consideration that a child may have a bad day every once in a while. everyone does. and i think that if a child is trying, then the teacher should help them out a bit. but i don't really know. because i don't think that teachers should give up on the children with a bad home life, and i think that the teacher should try to get through to them, and give them chances... but not too many. i don't know, I'm tired, and kinda out of it. so yeah. that is my post. again i apologize if it makes no sense.

Politics

We should hold them to higher levels because there suppose to be better then us because we want a good leader not a hypocrite. Because then why are we not in office because we can do the same thing they should be doing better then us. They should have some what of a private life but not a huge won and if they do something like Elliot Spitzer they should be kicked out of office. They should be judge on what they do outside because when there out side office there like everyone else and should be treated like everyone else.
Teachers should not take into consideration a students home life because it is there home life and student should be graded for there school life because that us what they are paid to do grade on school not on because some students are a lot different outside of school inside of school. If most kids are graded on outside of school most would fail because kids do stupid stuff in and out of school but more stupid stuff outside of school.

Leaders...hmmmmm...

I believe that leaders should be held in high expectation, but should not be exploited. They chose to represent the people and now have the responsibility of setting a good example. However, we need to understand that our leaders are people, too and have their own private live. They have the right to keep their private lives seperate from politics.

Leaders need to set good examples and be able to lead us the best they can. I f there is something in their life that is going to affect their leadership skills, I think that the public should be aware of it. However, mistakes should not be blown out of proportion. Everyone has the right to a private life .

As for teachers, I think that it is important for the teacher to consider the students private life. For example, if the student needs more time for an assignment due to a family isssue or not haveing enough time. Grades should only be altered if the student specifically tells the teacher about a problem.
A person's private life affects who they are, but for the most part, I don't care about a politician's private life. I'm mostly concerned with their ability to do their job effectively. It still has relevance, but I think it should remain private from the general public, unless this person should choose to reveal it. They can make the personal choices they want, but they are not above the law in any way.
In the classroom, a teacher should take a student's home life into account, but grade based on the work they do.

Are politicians people?

Traditionally, politicians in our country have been looked to as leaders and heroes in our country. Because of this, people look into their lives as much as they can. This causes them to have their private lives exposed to the public, which must be extremely annoying. A private life means just that, a PRIVATE life, one that you can keeep to yourself and not have everyone know about it. A public life, however, is what politicians shold be judged on. Their behavior in public, their political actions, their job, and that sort of thing should decide what politicians are viewed as.
What spitzer did, however, is different. Not only was it illegeal and immoral, but it was also a horrible decision, seeing as the whole state looks to him as a leader. prostitution is illegal, though, and it shouldn't just be the politicians that are arrested for it. tons of people aare involveed in prostituion every day, but it's only the politicakl figures that are arrested for it. political figures shold be treated to the same judgement that average joes get, and in this case, that means arresting everyone involveed in prostitution or letting spitzer go. this is a serious problem with our justice system here. what i really hope our new governer will do is fix this sort of thing.
By now, i believe that we, meaning the media, is blowing this spitzer deal out of porportion. sure he broke the law and went against he word, that is why he is not governer anymore. he deserved to have his political career come to an end but i am sick of this country making examples out of famous people. I mean just becuase he was governer doesnt mean he should be arrested, usually the johns dont even get in trouble. if spitzer does end up doing jail time it is only becuase he is was governer. mike vick for example, what man has ever gotten 5 years for dog fighting, the sport is inhumain, disgusting and wrong, but it is still ridiculas. leader should lead by example, but be treated like a regular citizen.

Politics with [sarcasm brackets]

[sarcasm brackets]
We should not hold our leaders to higher standards of acting. Kings, leaders, scandalous governors, none of them have any impact whatsoever on their people. They aren't setting examples. They simply fill a role, and no one tries to emulate them, no one looks up to them. Who ever heard of idolling a leader?

And of course our heroes and leaders should not have private lives. It isn't like they are people or anything. They should be dragged out on the street and forced to divulge all of their deep dark secrets. Constitutional rights be damned, they should have no right to liberty. A private life is for we exclusive middle-class citizens.

Their governing skills should not be based on what they do in their private lives. If they are abusive towards their children, who cares? They can lead. If they can't manage to keep a relationship with someone, who cares? That doesn't mean they can't relate to their people right? If they shag a coworker, who cares? It isn't like they're going to lie to their people about with a definite "I did not have sex with that woman." If they are privately insane, they can still lead, surely.

Similarly, teachers should grade people without consideration of their private lives. Their dad died, F. Their arm rotted of due to leprosy, F. Their school stuff was stolen, F. Their head exploded, F. Their private lives could not possible hinder their grades. Their attitude could not be based on what happens to them in their personal lives surely.
[/sarcasm brackets]

Sarcasm aside, I think as a general principle, people should have private lives, politicians included, that should be considered when judging their performance in their careers. If they can not handle a private life, perhaps they should not be handling other peoples' lives. If they are having trouble at home and are not doing their best because of it (say a relative died), then they should be offered some chance to heal or get over that problem before people start judging them. Additionally, I feel that, in relation to the school system, I have this to say: "Don't fix what isn't broken." Then again, I'm not a teacher, so perhaps it is broken and I just don't know it.

Hero's and Leader's

Leaders should be held at higher expectations. As citizens we have the responsibility to elect someone who we believe we can trust to do their job and if that person we elected doesn't meet expectations then they need to be replaced. I feel that if someone makes mistakes in their personal life then they could make a mistake in government and they either need to fix the problem or leave.
Everyone has the right to have a private life and it should be personal to that person. Its different if some worker at McDonald's did the same thing as Spitzer it wouldn't be as bad because not as many people are counting on him to be a leader and his responsibility is less than Spitzers.

I think that teachers should only take a little consideration of life home to decide how to treat students in class.
As as a leader I think that people like spitzer should be held to higher expectations. Now I know that all people are human, and all humans make mistakes. But I believe that leaders should be an example to the people.

I think everybody is entitled to a private life. But when you are breaking the law that is a different story. As an American citizen you are free to do as you please within a certain amount of guidelines, and when you break the rules you are entitled to punishment regardless of your status. And most of the time when you break the rules it will not be a private matter.

As I said before. Having a position in government does not excuse you from the law. And I do not believe that a person in that position is not fit to be a leader when he is breaking laws that are in a sense his job to enforce. Having such an important position unfortunately puts you in a position where you are considered above anyone else, but when this person does not abide by the laws setup by the government, that person is not fit to be a a leader or person of that much important and influence.

I do not think teachers should take kids home life into consideration when grading. That is not because i am a jerk. I say that because most bosses in the "real world" are not going to take that into consideration. In school we are being prepared for the "real world" and in the "real world" your boss is not going to higher you if you are not able to do your job right because of personal matters.

Leaders, Heroes, and other assorted Idols

Of course we should expect the world from people in positions of responsibility. These people are in charge of the fate of many, many people and creatues as well as a lot of money. These people are always supposed to be the "cream of the crop". If a leader is anything less than amazing there are usually grave consequences. These people, should realize that once they get in these positions, their lives are no longer their own. If they want to avoid this, don't enter a position of power. Having ultimate power comes with ultimate consequences and too often people try to dodge these for personal gain. Millions put trust into people like Spitzer and that trust should never be broken. It seems harsh, but when someone in a high position slips, people could die. To be held as a hero or leader you must survive and think clearly under the worst circumstances possible. I realize that these people are human, but when in charge of so much they can not afford to make human errors. Rarely does such a person come along and as such, we must constantly be changing leaders until one does. Spitzer was in place for a while and managed to have some kind of an impact, but this incident shows that he is very capable of making mistakes. This makes everyone working under him feel vulnerable and endangered. They have every right to expect those in charge of their fates to be perfect.

That is not to say they should not have private lives. Honestly, I don't care what they do when they are at home, as long as they stick to their public principals. Leaders must always do what they say in order to not plant seeds of doubt. such is the case with Spitzer. To fight a war against things like prostitues and then go and hire one, is almost the same as Bush walking onto a bus with a bomb strapped to his chest. It is like McCarthy supply nukes to the Soviet Union. Or the Grand Wizard of the KKK having a black kid. Maybe Mrs. Gaboury burning books. Possibly Master Chief being an agent of the Gravemind. Even, a Hindu preacher eating cow......alive.

Anyway, Spitzer is one of those failed politicians who made a horrible mistake in his private/public life that made people distrust him. Luckily for him, he is not excommunicated, there are other politicains who have made the same mistakes....... (Clinton, Nixon, Johnson, Craig, the list of potential new friends goes on).

Leaders and Heroes

Everyone deserves a private life, no matter how much people look up to them. It's not fair to put someone in front of the paparazzi all day, and to not let them have any time to themselves. But still - people shouldn't do stupid things when they have time to themselves. Enjoying yourself for a few hours isn't worth it if it's going to ruin your entire image, and make people look down on you. Not that people should be image-centric - that's just stupid. I mean, hanging around with friends and family, just taking a moment to sit outside - that's fine. But doing something illegal? And disgusting? Just because you want to? HECK NO.

As for teachers, they should be lenient if a student is having a really tough time, but many students - myself included - think of school and home as completely separate worlds, and don't like the two to intermix. I'm not really the type who enjoys getting all up-close and personal with my teachers. Friends? Sure. Trusted confederates? Not really.

heroes and leaders

I dont think it is wrong to hold public people at a higher level of expectation than everyone else. I think the people that are leaders should know that they have a responsibility. They have a role in the community and they need to show that they can live up to their responsibility. I do think that there is a line between their public and private life. Anything that they do in their private lives and at home should almost always stay at home. I also think that if someone does something so dramatic and something that could affect the way people see him and how he is viewed as a leader, than it should be brought to the public. As for teachers, I also think there is a line between their private life as well. I dont neccessarily think that how a student lives in their private life should affect how they are treated at school. If a student comes from a bad background I dont think that that should affect their grades. If their is a student that would want to talk about what is going on in their home life I dont think it should affect how they are treated in class.

public figures

I think that a public figure definitly neeed a private life, but what is considered private and what effect how a public figure does his/her job is completely diferent. For example leaders should be able to do regular things like go to parties and hang out with friends without every one getting on there case about it. On the other hand if some goes againts something that there fighting for it changes how people look at them and they lose their trust. Public figures should be someone you can look up to, but if they start doing things that compromise what they believe in
you start thinking about how much you can really trust them. Without trust it makes it very hard to do your job and if a public speaher is having touble with their job it would affect a lot of people. So although public figures desreve a public life they also have to be careful about what they do in their free time.

It is definitly diferent in schools. Although a teacher should try to help a student if they think something is wrong, astudents grade should only depend on there work. I believe this because kids usually cant control whats going on around them, but no one can take away the way the write or there talent for something like math and science.
Having a private life away from school or from work is important for every one But what Spitzer did is illegal for eveyone. No one should get special treatment for comiting an illegal act. A leader is suppost to be a good role model and buying women is NOT some thing I would see in a role model. It was stupid of him to do it but what people don't want to say is there are others who have done the samething . The only difference is that they didn't get caught

On the other hand some people in school have different situations than other and that sould sometiem s be considered (depending on what it is).

It is and horrible thing that happens everywhere and it is just sad that we can't stop it let alone keep it out of the justice system.

Heroes And Leaders

Leaders to me are people I can trust and look up to, and follow their example. But after Elliot Spitzer's scandal, I realized that you can't take anyone at face value, and just because they may play an important role in society doesn't hide the fact that they have their own private lives. I think that we often forget that celebrities and political leaders are people who have families and friends and problems. They may be very different from our families or friends or problems, but they are still there nonetheless.
I don't think that these private lives should cross into their public lives, because how annoying would it be for everyone to judge you on just what you don't want them to know? However, in light of Spitzer's scandal, the situation is different. What he did was disgusting and illegal, and disapointed many people who looked up to him and trusted him. But it comes to the question, where is the line drawn? Because when I think of this, I'm disappointed in Spitzer and confused as to why someone would do that. But when I look at other celebrities such as Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan who have been in rehab and have done things that I don't approve of, and other people shouldn't, I'm still disgusted but I think, why should we know about all that? It's all about the money, of course, but I really don't care about their lives, public or private. So I guess for me personally, the line is drawn at the position the person has. Elliot Spitzer was governor of our state, a pretty important role. Lindsey Lohan or Britney Spears are just a couple of celebrities who are only still famous for their mistakes. Their lives don't affect mine, so I don't feel let down by them. Elliot Spitzer does have an affect on my life, albiet a small affect and indirectly, but him being the governor of our state, I feel disappointed in his actions. It's the same with teachers. Teachers play a very important role in my life, so if I heard that a teacher of mine was doing something like this, I'd feel very let down and disappointed, and pretty scared.
However, I still don't think it's fair that we should look back on Spitzer and think only of this. He was a great man who slipped up, which everyone does. It was a big slip up, and eccentuated more so by the fact that he's the governor of New York State, but we shouldn't hold it over his head. HE realizes his mistake, because that's what it was, and we should too. Instead of remembering this, we should remember all that he's done for the state and his achievments as governor.
So, long story short, what Elliot Spitzer did wasn't a good thing, and I'm sure I speak for a lot of people when I say it was disappointing, but it WAS a mistake and we shouldn't look at him and say, "Oh yes, that's Elliot Spitzer, the guy who went into a prostitution ring." We should say, "Oh yes, that's Elliot Spitzer, a good man and a good governor who made a pretty massive slip up one time, and dropped out of governing." Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I like to focus on the good in people, not the bad.

Leaders and Heroes

In our democracy, we elect our leaders. We the people, choose who will run our town, state, and country. As a voter, people should just look at the delegates view-points and their plans for if they are elected. But it isn't so clean and nice. Politics is a nasty battle...propaganda, the news, and political parties cause problems. It isn't just about the politician and his/her plans, it is about what they were seen wearing in another country, or a sex scandle they were involved in, or the ways they have used the system to give them privilledges (like maybe getting special driving for their wife who happened to have a disability).

I think politician's public and private lives should be kept separate. But there are some things that can't be kept private. One of the bad things about politicians are the front they put on for people, the fake "perfect" look they portray when really everyone is human and no one can be perfect. People have high expectations for politicians, which is understandable. These are the people that make the decisions for our lives, they have more control, and therefore we expect them to not just say what they plan to do, but actually do it.

In Elliot Spitzer's case, he made a huge mistake. And is was shocking to everyone because it was hipopcracy. To the general public he seemed like he would bring good changes for the state of New York, and dispite any advancements he has made, he cheated on his wife with a prositute. It digusts me, as it does many people, and I think it was right that he resigned. But this is because he was being a hypocrite and his private life, was no longer private, it was effecting his public life. In any case, if the person's private life either goes against what they say to the public, or starts effecting their job and the way they lead, then it is wrong, and the people should see the true colors of their leader. They should see the person behind the camera.

As for teachers...they need to consider what a student's home life is like in the way that the student should be treated in class. Grading is a more difficult issue, and dispite the student's home life, they should be graded the same as everyone else. Expect for the effort factor. If you know the student is trying, they should be rewarded. If they don't care or try due to their tough life, then they deserve the bad grade. Students earn grades, and they must give to get.

I feel like a hero, and you are my heroine! -BoysLikeGirls

In my opinion, leaders should be people that we can look up to. They set an example for the people, but they should have a personal life. The life with their family is what no one else needs to know about. It is none of their concern. But we do need to know that they are doing legal things and seem as though they are a good person. This also comes into play. Some boundaries were broken involving the Spitzer scandal. The facts should have been completely figured out instead of everybody jumping to conclusions.

Spitzer deffinantly did a bad thing. You learn from your mistakes, but this one was a doozy. This information needed to be released to the public. The people of New York are now feeling sympathy for Spitzer's wife and family. We ask ourselves why he would cheat on his wife, risk his job, his marrage, his children's trust and his people's trust for a prostitute.

This topic is touchy and confusing. I think that in the end, it is good that Spitzer resigned because what he did was illegal. I still think people can look up to him. This is just one bad thing among many good things. If people like his views and his actions involving politics, then Spitzer's sex scandal should not effect them. :]]]]

by katie schultz

I don't think that it is wrong to hold thme to a higher level of expectation because they are political people and they were elected to do their job. They should be setting a good example for the people, and if they think that that is wrong well time ago. So that is why i think that it depends if a person's private life affects their job. then they can get over it. If you don't want to be known and you don't want to be held at a higher standard then I suggest you don't run for governor. I think that political leaders should be able to have a private life, but in eliot spitzers case, your "private life" should not be breaking the law and devastating your family. I think that there is a line to how a public figure's should affect if they are fit to take a leadership role. If you are the kind of person who goes to parties and drinks a couple of times a week then you are fine, that should not affect your job at all, but if you are with prostitutes and paying them $80,000 then you have crossed that line a long time ago.

I think teachers should do what they can to help kids with bad home lives without giving them graedes that they don't deserve. But if you have two kids that need help with the same homework. Kid number one has a bad homelife and couldnt do the homework, kid number two was out partying all night and didn't do the hiomework. I think that you should help both kids but you should help kid numbeer one first, because it isn't his fault that his homelife is bad.

Leaders

Sorry this is a little late, I didn't finish in class, and then forgot to do it for HW.

We elect leaders for their qualifications, beliefs, and past experiences, we elect them because we respect these things, and therefore respect them. We do not elect politicians primarily for their personal lives, however we do expect them to live in an honorable, legal way, that will not interfere with their job. Some expect them to be perfect, but this is unrealistic, politicians are people too, and no person is flawless. What people should expect is that when an elected official steps beyond these boundaries, they will correct themselves before the situation worsens, like any rational person would. If officials do not do this, the officials must reconsider their positions. If they still fail to fix the problem or resign, then the people must force them to.

However, any other situation in a politician's personal life that is legal and doesn't interfere with their duties should be private. We elect the politicians because we respect them, and after we elect them we should continue to respect them and their privacy.

Elliot Spitzer is obviously going through some difficult times in his personal life, and if it were only that, then I wouldn't be bothered by it. However, he has committed a crime, and even though I know politicians aren't perfect, I expect them to at least abide by their own rules. We place a great amount of pressure and responsibility on our governor, it is a challenging position, and I understand how such pressure might have influenced Spitzer, but it is no excuse. If a politician is not prepared for such a role, then the politician shouldn't run for the position, or should resign. This is why, even though my respect for Eliot Spitzer has lessened (a little), I respect his desicion to resign.

Even though what Spitzer did was wrong and hypocritical, I don't think that he deserves as much criticism as the media is currently giving him. Because, yes, he did make a huge mistake but he acknowledged that mistake, and resigned. Yet still all we can dwell on is the fact that he made a mistake, albeit a big one. We do not think about all the good he did for this state in taking down corruption, all we do is point at his one mistake and say, how could you?

Students aren't politicians and in grading and assesing students, teachers should, to an extent, take into account their personal lives. If a student is having family troubles, or a loved one has died, a teacher should be more lienient in deadlines, offer extra help, or allow students to rewrite reports they've done poorly on. However, a student's actual grade shouldn't be altered because of family or personal troubles. If a student hands in a well written paper, it deserves an A, if it is poorly done, then it deserves a lower grade, regardless of the student's personal life.

Heroes and Leaders

It isn't wrong to hold our leaders on a higher level of expectation. They chose that job and are willing submitting themselves to critism. Their position in the government is supposed to be made of people that should be role models to future people. They should have some type of private life where they can spend time with their family. There is certain times when the press should back off and not over exaggerate things. Also, a person's life should indirectly affect their role. If you see that they have poor ethics and bad qualities for a leader then they shouldn't get the role. As for student's homelife compared to schoolwork it all depends on what the problem is. If someone is trying very hard to get a good grade and the other is just skipping out on homework the teacher should spend more time helping the first person. But, if the problem is about the person family or beliefs that have nothing to do with education then that shouldn't effect how they are treated.

heros and leaders

I dont think its wrong to hold our leaders to a higher level then regular people. I dont think this is wrong because Spitzer tried to stop hookers and then we find out that hes been lieing and doing this himself. He knew what he was getting himself into when he became govener and he knew the rules that he had to follow but instead he chose to go against them. Leaders deserve a private life but not when they are hipocritical and breaking the laws. It depends on what the leader has done to make it affect their learship or not. What Spitzer did should affect him and it did because that was breaking the law and cheating on his wife. Alot of people liked him obvilousy, because he got elected govener.I think that teachers should take a students personal life into consideration when considering their grades. If their grades were low then there may be a problem at home and I think the teacher should ask if everythings alright but shouldnt go any further than that. If the student doesn't have a problem at home then they could not be trying or really just be dumb.

(Most) Politicians Are People Too!

Although it's kind of obvious to the people who have seen their share of political embarassment within the past decade, it needs to be said that there's a difference between leaders and politicians. Not only is it that not all Congressmen fit the bill of a real leadership role, but it's gotten to the point where politicians and leaders are completely different people doing completely different things. Good politicians lead the government, but good leaders lead people. The fact is that the federal and even some state governments have distanced themselves from the lowly citizen, and it seems like their actions have become more for the sake of the country, and not that of the individual. Whenever and wherever this happens, the systems (or rather, the people running them) simply corrupt themselves. They have forgotten or ignored who they're really in power for. They decide to experiment with their influence, pushing the laws past their limits, and pursuing their own interests.

Which brings us to the current scandal, and the role our "leaders" and our laws play in it. We are all guaranteed and protected by the same basic rights within the Constitution, including the right to privacy. With these freedoms, however, come consequences should you infringe upon the rights of another human being - consequences that everyone is subject to, regardless of political standpoint or power. Simple enough, you say? Well, don't forget the ever-popular notion that government leaders should be scrutinized more closely than the rest. If we feel the need to watch the people who watch out for us, can we really say we made the right choice in our leaders, the ones who set an example for an entire nation?

School performance is a somewhat different matter. It's important for teachers to understand and relate to any problems a student might be having, so that they can be helped. This help should not come in the form of a sugar-coated sympathy grade; such an action will not solve any problem the student may have, present or future. The conflict or mental block must be removed through nothing but good old thoughtfulness of words and actions.

Leaders

I don’t think that it is wrong for us to hold our leaders up to higher expectations. They have a huge responsibility to help us (The People) and we should hold them up to higher expectations. They are role models for us and need to set a good example for everyone. I think we should know about things such as Eliot Spitzer’s recent actions that may change the way he governs. Some things that a person engages in could possibly change if they are fit to rule or govern. But we don’t need to know everything our leaders are doing. Everyone should have a right to a private life. But if a leader does something that is going to affect him and affect his responsibility to us than they are not setting a good example and we should know about the issue.
I think that teachers should treat students equally. Even if a student is having problems at home I don’t think that a teacher should pry into a students life unless they want to talk about it.

Personal Life

This is a tough issue. I'm not even really sure where I stand so if this is all a blob of totally contradictory thoughts, I'm sorry.

I think we should hold our leaders responsible for what they do. They're leading us. they make the decisions... even if we put them in charge, they should still live up to our expectations. Sure, they're up on top (for the most part), but they still have rules they should follow.

Spitzer screwed up bad and everyone is going to have his head. Like Gabs just told Victoria and I only moments before, take a second and breathe. Figure out what you're going to do once you're sane and not acting up. You should make decisions when your head is clear and you can think of consequences. Maybe he should keep his life seperate (LIKE SUPERMAN!) but his personal life shouldn't effect his decisions.

The school thing is different, though. Things at home can effect everything (personal experiences and friend experiences) and not all teachers understand that. You don't have to pry into every aspect of our life, but maybe if you care a little bit.

Not that you don't, Gabs<3

Heroes and Villians

Why does the first so often seem to turn into the latter?

Let me say first and foremost that our heroes and leaders -- let's say government ones specifically -- should be not only "people" people, or good public speakers, or economically inclined, or have all those other leaderly characteristics; they also need to be role models. (Yes, radical concept, I know.) First of all, these people are symbols and representatives of our nation and us, the people; wouldn't you rather have good, moral leaders than ones who are horrible people but get the job done? And with all the badly-behaving people who run our country nowadays, what kind of message will that send to the future leaders of America? (A bad one.)

Yes, politicians are people, leaders are people, all those who are in the public eye or household names or whatever you care to refer to them as are still people, and they deserve some privacy. But they should know that with that kind of status, their "private" lives have a far greater chance of being exposed. They shouldn't be so surprised when oops! You mean that my involvement in a prostitution ring got found out? That is sooo unfair! Even though I am the governor of the economical center of the entire country, and hold one of the offices thought to be one of the top twenty most important in the world, and voluntarily chose and ran for this priviledge and rank, how dare you publicize my life? Leaders -- or those who are supposed to lead -- should realize that their privacy will be diminished. In a perfect world, it wouldn't be, but it comes with the job. This being said, they should regulate what goes on in their private lives. Well, first of all, ideal leaders shouldn't have any hanky panky going on that needs to be covered up, but if they do -- well, again, our leaders really should be role models and not just power-hungry politicians. Leaders should be held at a higher level of expectation than non-leaders. Those who choose to be in control of something have a big responsibility, and this should be apparent.

Teachers should take into consideration a students' home life, but only to a certain extent. Your grades should be your grades; a well-written paper should get an A, a bad one, a lower grade, regardless of the students' private life. However, if a teacher knows that the student's parents just got divorced, or something, they could be lenient in other ways, like allowing extra time assignments or extra help.

"Heroes and Villains" -- The Beach Boys

Leaders...

I think people should have a private life no matter who they are...but Spitzer went to far...He tepped over the fine line that some people have painted in their heads... Not only did he break the law but he lied to us. He made us think that he would fight the people who did things like that but instead he just became one himself. what he did was morally wrong and he deserves to be looked down upon.

I think that teachers should stay out of students private life. Its none of their business. But if a kid goes up and talks about their life freely about their life then I think that the teacher could advance and step in if needed. Teachers should treat all kids with the same respect they give them.

~Chelsea
Okay, here's the deal with Spitzer. Yes, people have a right to a "private life." The thing is, Spitzer has presented himself to the public as moral and just. He has been known for chasing down prostitution clubs and has been know for being a family guy. When it is revealed that he has been paricipating in the very thing that he has publicly fought, he is exposed as a hypocryte. I don't want this man as my governer.

Not only was what he did dreadfully misalligned with the man he has made evryone think he is, it is illegal. It is against the law. He broke a few laws. He payed for the prostitute's fair to get to D.C. (illegal). It is suspected that he has done it multiple times.

When you become a leader, you recieve extra responsibility. Yes you have a right to personal life but when you accept a leadership position, you accept the fact that you are a role modile in the public eye. Spitzer was elected into a leadership position. He accepted the responsibilty of leading the people of NY; of being a role modile. He blew it.

The question of wether teachers should allow the private life of a student to affect their treatment in class is interesting. I think if you know a child has been like abused, you should excpect them to possibly need some extra help. Overall, though, no. Students should work at the level they are able to and should not be judged by private life. They aren't examplrs, they're recieving examples.

The worlds leaders should have a private life, but that in turn should be a lawful one, just like everyone else that doesnt do illegal activities. The things that Spitzer did, and the things that certain people do are illegal, and just because they did those privately, that doesnt mean that they are right. We also need to have a higher expectation of them, so they will perfom their job better. With a higher stress level, the quality of work often goes up. Although, that can work the other way, too. The actions if Governor Spitzerwas not because of stress, but do to other, not-named needs. People in office should act better than he did, and there is really no excuse for it. If someone is going to rule and make and carry out laws, and vote for important topics, they should be held higher in expectation than others.
Students are not people in office, and they usually do not do anything that impacts their state or country. Homework is not neccesary. If the student understands the topic, and they do not need any m0re practice with, then why should they be expected to do more? That is something that i dont understand. Students also have private lives, and a lot of times with more important things to do than homework.

Why did Mulan eat a Dead Horse?

Should politicians have private lives? Absolutly. Should they be exempt from the law? Absolutly not. What Spitzer did was terrible, and should be treated as a crime. However, celebrities and polititians who do regular things, should not be followed by the media, and should live good, wholesome lives. If they don't, it's not our buisness to hear or comment about it. Im not sympathizing with Britany Spears, but thats her problem, and doesn't concern me or you, so she shouldn't have to be followed by the paperazzi. However, a politician who has power, and does something illegal, should be followed, so that we can get the real story. I think that a person with a healthy private life is fit for a role of a politician, because someone who has a twisted life, could screw up the people he/she governs.
Teachers should be leniant for students, who have troubled home lives, or too much on their hands, but not too leniant. Just enough so that a smart kid who just doesn't have enough time should suffer because of that. Thats all I've got to say, and its very disorderly, but I think you get it.

melissa's views on heroes and leaders[ finished now!]

I think that we shouldn't necessarily hold public figures with a higher level of expectations then we would ourselves but they are representing many citizens and are expected to be responsible and loyal to their families and citizens. Then again, wouldn't you expect these characteristics out of an average citizen? A person has to set fair if not high expectations of of themsleves and others in order to keep achieving and becoming a better person.
Leaders and heroes should have private lives. Although if they do something stupid in their private lives of course they have to know that it relects on how people view them politically [ as in Spitzers situatuion]. What happens in a public figure's life deffinately should be considered when viweing that person. It shows who they really are as a person, although people do make mistakes it shows a willingness to change by ficing their mistakes. Spitzer has had an affair more then once and obviously wouldn't have stopped unless being caught.[ to finish later]

Heroes or leaders" Good or Bad

I 5think that's its not wrong to hold our rulers or leaders above our heads. I think this way because our leaders are supposed to set an example. If they have a bad impression on people than we should consider getting rid of him/her. If our ruler does something illegal, then other people will think its alright too do. Which the most of the time its not right to do. Our rulers are supposed to Be strong and powerful both physical, intellectual, and mental. If our rulers think that illegal stuff is right than their mentality is messed up.

Eliot Spitzer had no right to do what he did. That's very wrong. I think that leaders should have a Private life but if it includes illegal stuff then the public has a right to know what their leaders is like. Politicians are always making fun of stars and celebrities saying" well I guess Britney Spars and Lindsay Lohan are not good role models" because they get drunk, shave their head, or do bad stuff. But these politicians are right out there doing the same stuff. What I'm trying to say is politicians make fun of or comment on celebrities but have they looked at themselves lately? No, in my opinion they have not. Celebs. don't have private lives, they media is always surrounding their houses. I think that it's very wrong for anyone politician or not to do illegal stuff. What Eliot Spitzer did was illegal and I think he should definitely resign.

I think that what happens in a public figures life should definitely mandate whether or not they are fit for a government job. If a ruler does stuff illegal, then yeah the definitely are not fit for a government job. I know sometimes you have an urge but that's not an excuse. If a ruler did nothing illegal then yeah they are fit for a government job. That's what I think and that' s what I will always think.

I think that no a teacher shouldn't take in a students home life. I feel this way because a kids family member might have died or a bad divorce but kids normally don't do illegal stuff when dealing with these issues. The teacher I think can definitely sense what's wrong with a kid. The difference between a kid and adult is an adult knows better. At least that's what they say.

heroes.

I think that holding of our "heroes" higher than that of normal people is wrong. All people are born equal, so why would we hold these heroes of ours' above everyone else? Can't everyone become a "hero"? Don't some people believe their heroes are their parents and not some high government or social figuure? Most people don't hold their parents above everyone else. But somehow we seem to hold those who are in some high class or higher social rankings above ourselves.
Because of my beliefs of people not being held to a high standard [even though they should have class and be proper], I believe everyone should have a private life. I don't think I would like someone snooping through my personal life because it's well..my life.
If a public figure is doing something terribly wrong, like basically cheating on his wife, I think that should be a factor into the standings of that person. It shows, to me, that maybe that person can't be trusted with the government in which is over me.But somethings like sexuality shouldn't matter one bit.

Teachers should in some aspect consider the home life of a student they teach. If the student is verbally abuse, say, and breaks down everytime they're yelled at, then you shouldn't yell at them.
I just think that the private life or home life should be taken into account but it's the teacher'd turn to decide what to do.

Spitzer and his stupidity

i think that people who are major leaders in the public eye should have a little bit of a private life. You also need to take into consideration that the people who are famous and in the public eye are the ones who make the desisions and control there lives. Eliot Spitzer did some pretty stupid stuff seeing as though hes in the major public eye. Yes its his private life and yes he should have some privacy but still, i mean seriously people. Hes like the governor. if hes that big of a role model and has all that pressure on him to do well, wouldnt you think he would be smart enough to not get envolved with illegal acts? yeah hes been doing it ( litterlly.... he he.... i had to do it ) for a long time but its not like somebody was forcing him to higher a prostitute and secretly have sex. Somebody other than spitzer had to have known that this was going on. I mean doesnt he have a body gaurd or something who has to like be there and like know that... hmmm maybe theres something going on here? Spitzer was wrong, and with him antaginizing Bruno all year any chances of bruno or any of the republican helping him are soooooooooo slim. i mean are you retarded are something? Spitzer... come on buddy. You have a wife and kids who now probably HATE YOUR GUTS! at least i would if i was your daughter, i would seriously hate your guts and refuse to be around you... because you would have cheeted on my mother ILLEGALLY!!! ughh .

Teachers should be kid of considerate toward kids with problems. Like if a kids dad died like a month ago.... yeah go a little easy on hem because thre probably going tthrough depression and such. Theres a limit though. Teachers should use there own judgement to decide how much to go easy on the kid. Like if it happend recently, yeahhh go easy ( like the governors kids!!!) but if it happend like 4 years ago... yeah treat them like a normal kid. Going easy on a kid is good to an extent, but after to long it gets unfair to the other kids in the class.

Heroes and Leaders

I think that leaders and heroes should have a private life up to a point. Everyone deserves privacy, but we also deserve to know what our leaders are doing if it concerns us. I think that many things that leaders do in their private lives do concern us, because they are our leaders and control many things in our lives. So I agree that people had a right to know about the whole Spitzer thing.

I'm not sure whether I think teachers should or shouldn't consider a student's home life. I guess grades should depend on the student's work only, but sometimes things are hard at home and maybe kids need a little extra time or help. I think they should think about their home, though, when considering how to treat the student in class. Teachers shouldn't treat them so special that they give them extra time or less work or something like that, but just be a little easier on them attitude wise in certain cases.

Politics

Hello all. Welcome back!
Blocks 6 & 7, you have a quick blog to write about posted below this one and then come back to "Politics."

Today you will not actually post, you will word process and print off a copy to hand in by the end of class.

I want you to begin by telling me what your thoughts are on this presidential election. Who would you consider voting for? Why? What issues are important to you and how does where your candidate stand on them support your ideas about him/her? If you do not pay any attention normally then consider this a research project--you must complete. This is not a choice assignment-even if you do not 'like' politics. :-)

Please search out candidates positions online. Look at their web sites. Look at the news sites and search under 'politics' to understand their positions and sometimes to compare what they say they believe and what they actually do. Look to see how they have actually voted on issues to see if they walk their talk.

This is a preliminary project for our elections on Thursday.

Enjoy!
Mrs. Gaboury
