Break
Break and summer vacation to me mean different things. Break is what it says, a break from school. I like to just relax during breaks and do more vacationy stuff during the summer. Break also still has the anticipation of school, while summer you can just forget about it (until you remember that you have summer reading projects or something like that). I like breaks and summer a lot, but eventually I get very bored and need school back (mostly just to see my friends).
Break?

MMYYYYY VACATION!!
was a bit weird in the begining because everyone else in the band were all over the place and we was just kind of stalking around, low to the ground. He warmed up a bit after the fifth song and half the time, I wanted to cry because it was so beautiful (I know, I know... Brand New and beautiful in the same description) because I've wanted to see them for so long and their lyrics kind of saved my life from some pretty scary things. I really connect to them so somtimes singing "Jesus Christ", "Play Crack The Sky", "Okay, I Believe You But My Tommy Gun Sure Don't" and "Deggrasur" with 5,000 other people can really get you emotional, especially when you can connect with his devilish lyrics and perfect interludes.lalala
Break and summer vacation are like two different worlds.Well..to me at least. In summer I can do whatever. I can go for a walk down to my neighbors barefoot, play some football, take a million bazillion pictures. In summer I don't have a care in the world. In summer I have my brother. We are WILD in the summer. Playing our games that we made up in the backyard and prefecting our "swings" [dont ask]. In summer there's Summerfest too. I love Summerfest. And in break...not Summerfest.I can't wait for summer even though I WILL not doubt miss my friends whom I don't se eon a regular basis.
Well sorry for the length.Isn'y usually this long.
But whatever.

Vacation/break/whatever...
On Friday, I went to Morgan Kunz's house and we went to Youth Group at her church. (I'm not really a church person, but it was really fun none the less.) And then we went back to her place and watched "White Noise 2" (which was good, but weird). The next day we went to this thing for 4H and helped little kids do crafts and stuff, that was a lot of fun...
Then I went babysat that night. That was awesome cause i love those kids like they are my own. They are 3 and 4 years old, a boy and a girl. They were really good for me, so it made my life easier. Then i went to my grandma's house and talked on the phone till like... 2 in the morning. then i had to get up for church at 7, so that was fun. Then out of nowhere, i was asked to babysit for the entire day on Monday. so, i did. (made $120 in less then 2 days, so i wasn't exactly complaining...) so by that point, i was beyond tired. it was ridiculous how tired i was.
Then I went to my dad's house and did NOTHING. it was fantastic to do NOTHING. But then Morgan Kunz came over and we played Wii for like.... ever. that was a lot of fun. she went home 2 days later... and um.... didn't do anything after that. We went shopping on Saturday... And we saw "The Spiderwick Chronicles", (WHICH WAS GOOD FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WERE DOUBTING IT WAS... Sarah... cough cough)
That was my vacation. After thinking about it, it was not a uneventful as i thought it was. But it was good because it was not a stressful as a vacation would have been at my mom's house... but anyways...

Compared to summer this break was nothing in terms of relaxation or the ability to forget about school. Unfortunately, the weather was also not quite as nice, and my skin probably needs to see more sun.
Breaks
Both my parents work full time, so I have to babysit my sister every weekday, and we never have plans because of that. If any of my friends make plans, I can't go unless we can get cover for her (or if it's on the weekend). And no one ever makes plans anyway. I'm not always able to have people at my house. Basically, breaks all stink - we still have homework during them. I don't do many chores, I don't have a job and I don't volunteer. I forget to eat meals and I never have anything to do.
Summer vacation is fun at first, but I still end up nearly suffocating from boredom after a week or two.
Breaks stink.

This vacation was ok. I got alot of sleep but some of my friends were out in Florida and I wasn't. I spent most of my time hanging out at home with some friends and drawing. My plans were to hang out with our group of friends consisting of about 20 people but it ended up only about 10. One of the best moments of the vacation was being able to see one of my best friends come back from college.
The only problem wth break right now is that my dad thinks "Hey the kids are home! Make them work!!" So its about 7:30 and my dad comes in and starts to wrestle me and sit on top of me telling me to get up. sanding the drive way, fixing the hot tub, doing the dishes are just some of the many chores that i have to do. As for summer I'm basically home free. I usually spend about half my summer at friends houses and at camps. What I really want to do is go somewhere next break. I have never been to disney, orlando, or anyother country. I feel as if I'm missing out on some things.
I still love break and summer break is usually a blast!
This break I was looking foward to playing baseball all day, and that is just what I did. I palyed from 7am to 2pm almost everyday. I also looked foward to and did dump pickin in rich neigborhoods. They throughout some good stuff. this year my big find was a mechanics chest with about $1000 worth of tool.
I did some beach doin in florida(thats were i went) i chilled on the beach and spent time with the family.. I was suposed to meet a freind down there but I did not have enough time to go see him.
In the summer i do alot of work. I dont mind it though cause its easy work for good pay. I dont have alot of responsiblity in the summer after work besides a couple chores. But for the most part I do baseball, Fourwheelin, Paintballin, good old fashion chillin.
this summer i am planning on reading "libral facism" i think it is going to be an awsome book.
Vacation :]]]
I spent three days of vacation with two of my friends: Nina and Cait, which was amazingly fun. I chilled with my brother, Eric and sisters, Grace and Anna, for a while too. We celebrated two birthdays. One for Grace because her birthday was in December and one for Doug, my half brother whom just turned the big 3-0. I did paint my room and it turned out great. It was a lot of worth but it's worth it. It brightened the room up quite a bit. Now my room isn't a chalky purple color. Yay!
My room still isn't put back together yet, so I had to sleep on the couch. But I'm going to finish today and sleep in my own bed in the green room. I'm excited :]
So, break was very fun and it was a nice relaxing week. I hope you had fun too!

Summer Vacation vs. Spring Break
Summer breaks are different, instead of a big warm hug they're like a shot of expresso. Of courrse the first week might be relaxing enjoying your lack of responsibilities, but after that there are so many fun things to do; sang out with friends, summer camps. Going to the beach has always been my favorite summer activity. I love everything about the beach, building sandcastles, doing handstands in the water (a feat I could never accomplish without the decreased gravitational pull), or just floating around. However, this coming summer may be different, before, I've never been able to or wanted to get a job. This summer I want to get some kind of job, even if it's bagging groceries or scooping ice cream. I'll miss the days of lounging around during the summer, but I'm always up for a new experience, and if I can make money doing it, thats just an added bonus.
No School You Say?
vacation it very different. you don't really have the feeling that school is right there. you actually have time to do stuff with your life. you can go somewhere, get a job, go to a camp, or whatever. there is so much time to really concentrate on something you enjoy and school doesn't get in your way. it also gives you a chance to make the transition into the next year.
so a break is relaxing, but vacation is exciting. they have very different feelings to them but they are both very important to getting through school. without them i would probably go insane, like more so then usual, which is bad, very very bad.
Nothing Doing
Breaks and Vacations
BREAK!
It was an enjoyable time. My plans consisted of hanging out with friends, spending time with my mom, and just sleeping in till noon. I went bowling (I got a stike!), went to the movies, learned how to make chicken parmesion, and watched Lifetime movies when I woke up in the afternoon (each time reaching for the tissuebox).
But break is far different from summer vacation. Summer vacation is exciting and amazing and you can do so much but yet it still goes by in the blink of an eye. Break is just a sigh of relief and a relaxing time...
So overall break was good...but now I'm sick and I don't have a voice, and there are only 3 weeks left of musical practice...and "AHHHHHHHHH"! Back to school, back to chaos, and back to reality...

Block 6&7 --- What do you anticipate most for breaks as opposed to summer vacations?
Today I want you to consider . . . break. And summer vacation. Each word or phrase brings about a different set of emotions and thoughts. Why?
What did you looking forward to the most this break? What did you miss? What were plans? Did you even make plans or do you just enjoy the idea of . . .nothing. Sleeping late. Lounging in your PJs.
How does the feeling of 'break' compare to 'summer vacation'? Are there responsibilies? Chores? Jobs? Volunteering? Certain books you have put off to read for the summer? Places you want to visit you have put off?
Enjoy!

Happy 2nd Semester. 5 months to go! And now--your thoughts on Censorship. And by the way--Blogs are not optional!!!
Censorship. Is it ever right to censor someone? Are there certain things that should be censored? Music? Videos? Games? Books? Ideas? Politics? Religion? Why? When? From who? Why not?
Enjoy!

Bye Sorry i will miss you but i still have 4-5 months near you
Vacation & Break
Feburary Break
I am sooo excited for break. It is nice to take a week off from the drama of highschool and to just unwind and not have to worry about projects and homework. I usually don't make plans until the day before. So all Im doign this break is staying home (whitch can be fun but usually is boring). Breaks bring a different mindset then summer vacation. When your on break you know you have to go to school soon and that it is only for a week. Summer vacation is exactly that its a summer vacation. Its different than break because you don't have to go to school for like 3 months. Usually during summer vacation people usually go to places and travel for weeks at a time. On breaks people don't travel as much becuase they know that they have to be back for school. I will miss seeing some of my friends that I usually see everyday but I won't get to see them because they might be going away. During break there aren't alot of responsiblities or chores. During summer vacation I have a ton. My family deffinelty puts trips off until the summer becuase certain places are soo much nicer in the summer. I deffinelty put books off it they are really boring until the summer because If I have nothing to do I can read. I am soooo excited for break.
Vacations, ya there cool
break what a bummer

Censorship
Censorship can be very useful when used in music or TV because I do not especially like hearing swear words. Also the gory parts in movies should be censored because I do not want to see that!! However, other people have different opinions about this. They may feel that lfe shold be portrayed in movies as it would be in real life, so these things should not be censored. So, it is hard to please everyone. Maybe there should be a censored version and an uncensored version.
With books, none should be censored. People should decide what they want to read. There should be warning, but people should have the right to read anything they wish.
The swear words are not as big of a topic as religion or politics. In my opinion, people should be allowed to hear as much as they want to hear, within reason (obviously if there is a confidential political issue, the public should not know about it until they are ready). Politics should be posted on television, and if people wish to watch and hear about the issues that is there choice. Religion should be optional too. I think that when someone is in a place where everyone has similar beliefs things should not be censored(church), but when a person is in a place where everyone has different beliefs, things should be censored(school).
Censorship should be decided from a person who likes censorship and someone who doesn't. In other words, two different kinds of people should comprimise on what should be allowed and what shouldn't.
Overall, I think that people should be allowed to decide what they want to see or hear. Everyone should have the right hear all opinions an make their own opinions.
Censorship
Censorship
With the uprising popularity of Rap and Hip-hop, the subgect of some of those songs could be considered mature but it isnt censored. Sure some of the swear words are taken out on the radio but should a 10 year old be singing a song about a suicidal man who takes pills and dies. Although the 10 year old might not understand, he should still be censored from things that could effect how he thinks and his morals could be effected. With the idea of video games i can say that I used to play a mature video game that was suggested for people above 17. Im 15. Some people claim that games like "Grand Theft Auto" and "Halo"will make children end up shooting people. This is a far cry from reality but is it really?
Schools around the world are trying to ban books so childrens minds wont be infected with bad ideas. but with daily media theres no protection, theres no censorship. The problem with censorship is that someone could think that something is bad but someone else could think that it could be used as a lesson to be learned. Thats a big problem in polotics and religions.
In religion, kids arnt allowed to pray in public schools. Should this censorship exist? I presonally think that it shouldnt because if I pray in school and im not bothering anyone then why should i be stopped? Some people would say that they dont want their children to get into religion because of something that happened to them but its not their choice to mold their childrens minds. The most hippocritical thing about it is that they want to protect their children from religion but they let their children to listen to rap and go on any websites they want (such as myspace).
I believe that censorship is biased on what the person believes is right. If someone is pro abortion then they want to get their idea out. While at the same time someone who is radically against abortion might try to silence or censor the other person so that no one can hear their ideas. Alexis, Kelly and Emily argue with Frank and I about polotics and ideas all the time. I believe that what we talk about shouldnt be censored. We all have ideas and we have the right to get them out. Although at some points I feel like taping Kellys mouth shut, she has her own ideas (although stupid) and she shouldnt be censored.
There's things in life that I feel should be censored for certin people but someone could have their ideas and they could be different then mine. Everyone has a voice and theres really no way to determine what should be censored and what shouldnt be. Although the goverment try's to censor what the majority thinks is right, theres no censorship and there will always be this conflict till the end of time. Thats life and theres really nothing you can do about it accept it and move on.
Censorship
Personally I think music shouldn't be censored. But that is coming from a fifteen year old girl that is around swearing kids all day at school. A mother knows her youngest son wants to listen to the rap that her older teenage son listens to, but she doesn't want to expose him of the f-word. That's understandable. I mean, it's not like by censoring some of the music, the people that want to hear the "authentic lyrics" in their entirety can't buy the real stuff.
As for videos or movies...this effects me. I can't go see an R rated movie without a parent or guardian...and that aggrivates me. I think parents can either allow their kid to see a movie, or say no...and that is their personal choice, so there shouldn't be regulations for everyone.
Now, the censorship of games...it's not a concern of mine. I hardly ever played video games, and when I did it was Crash Bandicoot and Spyro, the purple dragon. I think that the violence in games is disgusting personally, and I don't know how people find joy in killing others on screen. What is the message? What is the point? I can understand censorship here.
Books should NOT be censored!!! You read what you want, and if a vulgar language, or a topic in the book is offending to you, stop reading. Everyone has the right to think the way they want to, and that includes authors. It is wrong when books are censored. A lot of the time, the banned books may have bad words or a horrible character but the theme of that book is to not be like that character or not say those things. For instance, Huckleberry Finn was banned in many schools. It does say the n-word, and to me, having 2 half black cousins, that word offends me. But, one of the themes of that book was how Jim, the black slave was like a father to Huck, was so intelligent and caring despite his skin color and social status. You have to read between the lines, and some people are just too ignorant to realize that.
Now, for politics and relgion... Everyone has their own view and everyone has their own beliefs. In public schools, teachers should have the right to state their opinions, but let the students have theirs. Teachers shouldn't force their ideas on students and intimidate them. With pollitics, we should debate, but never should there we a "right" and "wrong" side, it is all up to the individual.
Censorhsip can be bad, censorship can be good. It depends on the place, and the people involved. But the thing that should never ever EVER be censored is ideas and thoughts. No one can tell you how to think, and no one should shield you from all knowledge. You have to know everything about a subject to have a fair and just opinion about it. Freedom of thought is the only thing that is saving our country and the world. United we stand? No, all the same thoughts for all people, that would cause us to fall---divided we stand.
---Kelly Moak
Censoring
On the other hand censoring of people opinions can hurt an entier nation if they don't know what is going on. Some censoring is vey harmful because that person is gonna tell some one and if the right person doesn't hear it due to censoring, the wrong person will.
As for video games and movies, that's what the ratings are for and if a parent can't conrtol the movies adn video games that their kids have than they have other issues to deal with. I do not agree with the banning and censoring of books. This is so because when you pick up a book you are reading some one else's perspective and not your own and if you don't like it then don't read it!
Again polticis and religion is your opinion, how you take and understand it is different for each person. You could agree of disagree (like Em, Nate, Kelly, & Alexis)
So each person is different some so be put in jail and some are just trying to voice their opinion.
Censorship, it should die a slow and painful death
Though censorship of movies and music annoys me, censorship of books is just unacceptable. Everyone has the right to read what they want, to take that away would be to take away their ability to learn. If one person doesn't like the topic (because it is vulgar) or ideas (because they oppose that person's ideas), then it is that person's choice to not read it. Everyone should have the option to read and interperet books in their own way, one person should not be able to take away another person's right to have an opinion.
The censorship of religion and politics is a little more comlex. I believe everyone has a right to have an opinion, and part of that opinion includes their religious and political views. So, a person should be able to state their opinion anywhere, anytime. However, a person, such as a teacher, should not be able to teach their students that their way is the right way and the only way. In a way it is similar to my opinion on the censorship of books, a person can have their own opinion, but should not force other people to conform to their views.
Censorship, though it can be helpful on an individual level, is never acceptable on wide spread level (country, state, etc.). No, one person should have the ability to tell or imply(by censoring or banning a certain work) another person that their thoughts or ideas are not worth listening to or reading. Everyone has the right to their own opinion, and the right to have their opinion respected.
censorship
Cencorship is lame. :]
When people censor things they think it wil protect somebody, but it doesn't. There are topics that everyone needs to be knowledgable about and censoring these things are helping no one. Take banning books, for example. When a book is banned, the world is being kept from the knowledge and experiance that they would have recieved if they had read it. It just isn't right.
And why censor music? Music is just poems put into song. Of course, some modern artists are putting many inappropriate things such as sex and violence in their songs, but most music like that is rap. And rap isn't real music. Music can effect the way someone feels at any moment, and that's a wonderful thing. When people are feeling sad, they usually listen to music that they can relate to, or that can cheer them up. If people are feeling blissful, they'll listen to music that is happy so that they can keep the high that they have off of life. If someone is angry, they'll listen to music that sets that mood. Along with this, if someone is upset because their boyfriend broke up with them, they call their friends. It's likely that the friend they talk to will call the ex-boyfriend a vulgar term. People will be introduced to swearing, sex, violence and such even without having it in movies and music. So why should it matter if it's in movies and music? People can relate to it in those things. They're are beautiful stories that people should be able to hear about without censorship.
As Allen Jenkins said, "Censorship in any form is the enemy of creativity, since it cuts off the life and blood of creativity: ideas."
Titles are for silly people - or I just can't think of one
Censorship, like communism, is one of those things that works in theory - but not in real life. Still - I do agree with some forms of it. If you don't want your 3-year-old watching TV shows in which people stab each other repeatedly with knives and say f*%# every other word, then go ahead - turn on the parental controls. But sooner or later, someone is going to walk by on the street swearing their head off, or one of the kid's friend's older brothers is going to be playing Grand Theft Auto while he or she is over at their house. You can hide it from them when they're young, but you can't protect anyone forever.
We wouldn't need censorship if people were smart enough to make their own decisions - in most cases, anyway. It's up to YOU whether or not you read or even flip through that book which appears to be about gang wars and squabbling prostitutes. In my opinion, books don't need to be censored, because they are physical things that you pick up out of your own free will. Same thing with stuff like video games, because it's YOU who plugs in that console - no one is making you do anything (unless of course you happen to accidentally walk by while someone is playing, in which case - blame them and don't buy the game.). Stuff like music and TV, though should be censored when it's on the radio or on public channels, just in case someone happens to be flipping through the stations and sees (or hears) something they shouldn't. But THAT wouldn't apply if we didn't have those inappropriate songs and programs. It's all just for entertainment anyway - we don't really need them. If you WANT to watch the unrated version, then buy the DVD.
I don't follow politics, and nor do I follow a religion, so I can't really give an opinion of their censorship if I don't even know what's happening. How do you censor religion anyway? Is it the sort of feeding-Christians-to-the-lions thing? I honestly have no clue.
Well anyway,
Ali
Censorshipdizzle
Censorship, F$#% That!
My opinion about censorship is very similar to that of Clare Booth Luce who said, "Censorship, like charity, should begin at the home; but unlike charity, it should end there." (thats right Gabs I read your walls). Parents should decide what is appropriate for their kids to read or watch, no one else, because what is appropriate for one person is not nesisarraly appropreate for another. Parents have the ability to know what their kids are reading and can act upon it in a way they believe necisary, and with new TVs and computers with blocks and parental controls they can do the same with those mediums.
For games I don't think there should not be any censorship. What they have now just lableing what it is rated and why is good enough. Then a parent can decide if it is appropriate.
ideas should never be censored. no one should ever be affraid to express an idea because they might be persicuted. If we never did things like that durring the middle ages and the spanish inquisition our technology might be a lot further along.
So that is my long rant of CENSORSHIP (lightnigh in background) take it, digest it, think about it, and do with it as you will.

Really, really late blog on switching places...
It would also be pretty cool to see how their culture is different from ours. I mean, there are big differences, such a religious prefrences, but little things, like what they talk about at dinner, or what is important to them. I think that Americans tend to be more materialistic and technlogically based then people in other countries. I mean, we look at countries like... lets say... Ecuador, (i dont know, first country to come to mind...) who do not have the advancements in technology like we have, and they seem to be getting along alright without them. I don't know, I just think it would be kinda cool to see what it is like not to be like we are here.
But I have to be honest and say that I could only spend about a day there, because their government makes me soo angry that I think I would either end up assassinated, like Benazir Bhutto, or exiled from the country. no joke.
Anyway, that's my shpeil on switching places... not the best thing i have ever written, but it's there.

I totally forgot!
1) New Years! I'm gonna go with "We are the Champions". I had an awesome time new years, and I felt that I had overcome some goals that I had set the previous year, so I felt like a conqueror. I was really proud and myself, and just felt good.
2)January-March. During this time period, I was getting back on track, pulling out of a school slump, and fixing some friendships that were long over due. I think the chorus from Free's "All Right Now" works, because, it was all right, and it had the same kick butt feel as I had.
3) Nifty Fifties. I'm gonna chose "Rock Around The Block" from the show, not only because it's from it, but because the song is about having fun. And that's exactly what happened during the show. I got to hang out with some of my best friends, act, sing, wear a sparkly jump suit and a Hugh Hefner Esq robe. We also had a lot of awesome jokes! ("You're straight as a whistle" -that's to my dearest Matt McFadden and Kelly Moak).
4) March-June "Eye of the Tiger" This was the homestretch for Middle School, and I was plowing right through. My different friend groups seemed to bond, and we were a team. We were on the ball, getting good grades, and having a lot of fun.
5) Graduation "I've Loved These Days" by Billy Joel, because I really did love being at Algonquin, and I don't think my peers give it enough credit. We all know we had a blast there, and that it shaped us to be the "responsible, mature" people we are now. Anyway, I've always looked back at those days fondly.
6) Summer "Revolution 9" Not so much the lyrics or the concept of the song. But the feel. Long. Monotonous. Boring. Kind of like Moby Dick. I honestly am having trouble remembering more than three exciting things. Which brings me to August.
7) Steven goes Bye Bye "The Long and Winding Road" This was the most sad I had been in a while. Steve and I had really gotten close lately, and he was going away. The song is about to me is about looking back at what you've been through with a person, which I was doing a lot of, and mostly, I was proud of it.
8) Coping with no Big Brother home "A Quick One While He's Away" I enveloped myself with this Who song. It made me really happy during a time when I was having a lot of no brother, friendshipy problems. It still gets me through a lot.
9)Sometime in September "Superman" by Lazlo Bane During this time, I had someone that I wasn't too close to, come to me with a huge problem, and it put a ton of stress on my shoulders. The song is about only being able to do so much. I eventually worked it out.
10) October-New Years "More Than A Feeling" Well, the years over! And around this time I became obsessed with this Boston gem. Its just very spiritual for me. I don't know whether it's the lyrics, or the feel, but I just feel the song now a days. If that makes sense. I promise I'm not tripping. I'm not into Drugs.
Well there was my extremely uneventful year. But this blog made me appreciate the first half of the year. And dislike the second half. Oh well! -Peter
PS Im gonna add Summertime Blues to the Summer portion of this, because summer seemed rather unfair to me, and I didnt get my fair share O' fun.

More Extremely Extremely Vast Lateness - This Time About '07
Numero Uno: I!!!! WENT!!! TO!!!! JAPAN!!!!!!
I could write an entire post on this one. Seriously, I could. But I'll just sum it up for now. It was my first time out of the country, my first time out of the time zone, and for goodness' sakes it's a TRIP! It was absolutely amazing, I loved it, I did so many awesome things. Anyone (and I mean ANYONE) who wants to learn s'more about it should feel free to talk to me any time! I'd love to share my stories!
Song: *scratching head* ummm.....I dunno.....Japan and its vast wonderfulness is too hard to figure out with my limited knowledge of songs. I suppose I shall choose a Japanese song (gee, I wonder why?). I'll go with Hikari E (To The Light) by The Babystars, because the lyrics (when translated) are about going on a journey, and searching for your dreams, so I feel like it kinda fits.
The Second One: I'm not sure if my long-term memory is entirely correct, but it seems as if '07 was the first year that I really experienced death. Approximately half of the dogs (and one cat) that I knew died this year (but not my adorable poochie, thank goodness), whether from accidents or just from old age and sickness. Also, the husband of a close friend of my mother's from Long Island (that's where I used to live), who had been fighting a brain tumor for about a year, passed away. Of course, I found that out on the same day that I found out that I hadn't made Anything Goes, so needless to say that day sucked.
Song: I'm baffled......again....do I even know any songs about death? I would say "Angel", by Eurythmics, except for the fact that I hate and despise that song. I guess "Everybody Wants To Rule the World" by Tears for Fears, just because it's kind of a desperate and sad song about humankind (but I still love it).
3/San/Tres: High school, man. Just moving up 1 year in school can make such a difference. High school is bigger, (mostly) better, and has great classes. It's also a big step in a person's life, to move up a grade and suddenly be in this different place. It feels like I've grown up a lot just by leaving Algonquin.
Song: Can't think of one. The transition is pretty much indescribable, and I'm not enough of a music guru to know a song for it. Sorry!
The Number Formerly Known as Four: This isn't strictly limited to 2007, but I love my friends!!!! They rock. In '07, they helped me to actually (gasp!) have fun at the Hollyball in December, and I was actually able to cut loose and dance for once. They help me, and I try to help them. They are indescribably awesome. I looooooooove all you guys soooo much!
Song: You're My Best Friend, by Queen : self-explanatory :P
1000/25=40 40*2=80 80/16=5 : Humm....trying to think of something else....what if 2007 wasn't really a year of consequence for us? Besides Japan and the other things mentioned here, not many exceptional things happened to me last year. Though I did start reading the Hungry City Chronicles, which, now that I have finished them, have become my favorite books ever. I read a lot of other good things this year, like Harry Potter 7 (I almost typed Harry Potty) and the Twilight trilogy. I suppose, though, that my 5th event will just be living. All of the seemingly unimportant things gradually add up, and I'll see what they become later in '08. But I'm grateful for '07, just because I got the chance to live in it and experience the good things and the bad.
Song: The Prophet's Song ~Queen Because it's my favorite song.
Love and happy (late) New Year,

My Extremely Extremely Vastly Late Verse
Anyway, me verse.....hmmm......well, I couldn't really tell you that. Y'see, unfortunately, I'm not possessed with the ability to see the future, so I can't tell you what my verse will be - who knows which way my life will go? However, so that I don't fail this blog post, I can try to tell you what I'd like my verse to be.
Frankly, I don't think I'm meant for much in this world. I don't think I'll end up rich and famous and donating millions of dollars of charity, and I don't think I'll end up being some fantastic public speaker who inspires the masses to do good things. What I'm hoping for is more of the help-a-few-who-help-a-few-others chain reaction etc. etc. If I ever actually have the chance to donate millions of dollars to charity, then goshdarnit I'll do it, but I'll probably be the sort who volunteers and maybe donates a bit. But one thing I know I'll do is try to smile. Have any of you guys ever smiled at a stranger, and had them smile back? It's a great feeling. Try it sometime - with your friends and enemies too. You never know how much a smile or a hug or a joke can improve someone's day.
Anyway, what I really think about life is that: it's hard. It stinks sometimes. That's why there are other people on Earth - so we can support each other and help each other along. Life isn't always going to be fair or kind to us, but it's a precious gift and we should try to make the most out of it. By leaning on others and letting them lean on us, not to mention trying to help those who need it, we can all make life a bit more bearable. And, my poem for this is: an excerpt from "Dover Beach", by Matthew Arnold! Which was in F451!!!! And also "A Darkling Plain"! (By the way, Mrs. Gaboury, I finished it yesterday and IT.WAS.AMAZING. It is seriously worth reading the entire series just to get to the end of it. The Hungry City Chronicles are now officially my favorite books EVER.) Anyway, the poem (which I am typing from memory) is:
Ah, love, let us be true
To one another! For the world, which seems,
To lie before us like a land of dreams
So various, so beautiful, so new
Hath really neither joy, nor love, nor light
Nor certitude, nor peace nor help for pain,
And we are here as on a darkling plain
Swept with confused alarms of struggle and flight
Where ignorant armies clash by night.
Thanks to 'A Darkling Plain' by Philip Reeve, that poem is now my absolute favorite.
In summary - help others, because without 'em, we're just a bunch of squabbling idiots.
I don't know if this is exactly my verse - but it's my view on life, which is good enough for me.
--Ali
P.S. To all of you who have never heard of them (and that's most of you), the Hungry City Chronicles is a quartet of novels by Philip Reeve. In order, they are: Mortal Engines, Predator's Gold, Infernal Devices and A Darkling Plain. They are simply amazing books - one of 3 series that I have ever cried about, the other 2 being Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials and Harry Potter. I looooooooove these books!!!!!!

If I Could Switch Places (Sorry for the lateness)
So to answer the question, i can't think of a specific person who i would switch paces with but it would be someone who was much less fortunate then i am. I feel that living as a teenager in an impoverished county in Africa for a week would really open my eyes to the suffering that is out there in the world. Also when i switched back to be myself i would know what true suffering was and that way i can really appreciate how amazing my life is. how i don't have to do any hard work and all of my basic needs are taken care of and i don't have to worry about any of them.
PS-I am really sorry that this is so late but i missed the class when we did this and it just took my a while to get around to it.

2007 was an extremely big year in my life. It seems to me that it was a year of immense growth and maturing. Looking back it kind of seems like I was drifting through life before, but I finally seem to have caught a hold of something. I’ve secured a true group of friends for the first time of my life and things are beginning to click. My forgetfulness is starting to disappear, I can finally begin to put 2 and 2 together, and the world is making sense now. I don’t know, maybe I am babbling on but it seems true to me. “stoner moment” It’s almost like… my consciousness has risen to some higher level, things are like, becoming clear and I’m becoming aware of them. Its also been a very eventful year and I have learned and experienced more than I seem to have ever before. Things like my first real concert, my first r movies, health-consciousness, and the ability to truly think things through have suddenly occurred to me along with many more events over this last year. (On a geeky note, the video game industry is better than ever baby!). I would not only say that 2007 was a good year, but that it was my best year. For this soundtrack thing, let me think, possibly “Land of Confusion” by either Genesis or Disturbed (Disturbed did a remake). This song reflects to me how there are so many people and so many opinions in the world that perfect harmony is no longer possible and everyone is living in a constant state of tension as to what problem will end the world first. However it also talks of hope that the new generation could fix it. I have thought about things like this over the past year and am still trying to work through the hormones and solidify a solid set of beliefs.

2007
Number One: Graduating from middle school/ entering high school. I'm not sure that I took this as seriously as some people (no tears for me), but it was somewhat significant. High school for me has been like most of my school experience. I like the scheduling better, and I've met some new people, but it is overall what it has always been; school. This combined with people finally recognizing that global warming is actually a threat makes "The Times They Are a-Changin' " by Bob Dylan a good choice. Global warming is part of #1 not because it has directly affected me so far (except for the lack of snow), but because the first verse of the song is
"Come gather round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
Youll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin
Then you better start swimmin
Or youll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin."
This song best fits #1, but can apply to almost any of the things that have made 2007 stand out.
Number Two: Summer, as always, was amazing. During the first week of July I went to this summer camp. It was super fun, but also helped me to trust people more, and be more confident. There was even one part of the camp that made me, and everyone else there (even the counslers) cry, and not just one or two little tears. I'm talking about bawling, ugly crying, thinking back on it I know it was a good experience for me. Though, I do laugh at the thought of what most people were thinking when a group of crying people were walking around their campus. Besides that my summer was a time of rest and relaxation, just hanging out with friends. Also, this summer we finally got a pool!!!! I've been begging for one since I can remember swimming, so I was veeeeeeerrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyy excited when we finally got one. However, it was a lot of work to keep up, and it turned green several times over the summer. Another significant part of my summer was that I turned 14, meaning I could get a job. I decided not to get one, why would I when I had so many other more relaxing, entertaining things to do. I enjoyed my last summer not working, and plan to work next summer, though who knows if that is going to happen. For my summer, since it was mostly just about enjoying things, people, life I picked "In the Summer Time " by Mungo Jerry. (I'm not sure if a lot of people will recognize it by its composer or name, but if you heard it you'd recognize it, it's one of those songs that just makes me happy)
Number Three: The Party. So in early December, my sister(17) invited me to a party. It was a Friday night and I had no plans. I was curious about what one of my sister's friends parties would be like, if it was similar to most of the ones I've been to, just a bunch of friends hanging out. So after much persuasion, and against my better judgment I agreed to go. As it turns out, my sister didn't even know whose house we were at, and on the way their I had to lie on top of two people, on the way back someone was lying on top of me. In between it was pretty boring, there was a mediocre band playing in the smoky basement, and upstairs.... well, I won't get into upstairs, except that there were a lot of drunk people, and some that were very creepy. To some of you this might sound pretty fun, but I prefer to spend my time in places that aren't going to give me cancer, with people that aren't complete strangers. Overall, the party was pretty boring, and it destroyed the ideas that I had had about my sister. I had always thought she went to see amazing bands at amazing parties, not mediocre bands at boring parties. I don't really have a song for this, so maybe you can think of one. The main theme should be fallen expectations, but not in a depressing way, it should be more like enlightenment or realization, or really bad parties. I'm sure you can think of something.
Number Five: Christmas. This year, the few days before Christmas, which are usually spent for last minute shopping, cooking and baking, were, for me, spent in bed. I was a little disappointed, because usually we make our Christmas cookies and I stay up with my mom on Christmas eve wrapping the presents that aren't mine. Luckily, I felt much better on Christmas Day, and was able to enjoy the holiday a little more, this was primarily due to the great number of relatives all packed into one small house, distracting me from anything that would have worsened the day. So this song is selected for and dedicated to them, the song is "Blue Christmas" by Johnny Cash, it wouldn't have been the same without them there.
These are most of the major events that sum up my 2007, which, as you can tell, has been a pretty good year for me.
My Verse (Yes, I Know That This Is Late)
I'm not too sure what my "verse" is. I would like to do many things in my life, and to be known for them. However, i do not yet know what these famous events will be. The song, "I'm Still Alive", played at the end of Portal, is something that is deeply porfound to me. It is about the feelings and future of GlaDOS, a supercomputer that was made by Aperature Science. The computer killed all of the company's emplyees with a neurotoxin, and tries to kill the player by sending them through increasingly dangerous test chambers. Eventually the player finds broken walls of the test chambers, which behind them are run-down maintenance areas. These areas were the safe-havens of test subjects before you. The graffiti made by them helps you out of the tests and finally to destroy GlaDOS. And, after the explosion which flings you out of the Aperature Science building, the computer sings you this song. Now, i am in no way wishing ti become a psychotic supercomputer, but it does make some valid points. The line, "We do what we must because we can. For the good of all of us. Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake. And the science gets done. And you make a neat gun. For the people who are still alive." With the exceptions of the cake and gun business (if you must know, GlaDOS has a fixation with cake, and tempts you with it constantly, and the gun reffered to here is the Aperature Science Handheld Portal Device, which creates portals whoch you can travel through), i believe that this is a very good mindset. Keep doing something productive and helpful to humanity, and even if you make a mistake, fix it and keep going. Dont linger over past failures.
If i ever do anything note worthy, it will be in this manner. I would like to do something in the field of science. And if i indeed have a verse, this would be it. Here is the whole song, and if you want to listen to it, which i highly recomend(that means you, Mrs. Gaboury), the url is:http://youtube.com/watch?v=-8JatlRwd0s.
Still Alive by Jonathan Coultan and Ellen McLain:
This was a triumph.
I'm making a note here:
HUGE SUCCESS.
It's hard to overstate
my satisfaction.
Aperture Science
We do what we must
because we can.
For the good of all of us.
Except the ones who are dead.
But there's no sense crying
over every mistake.
You just keep on trying
till you run out of cake.
And the science gets done.
And you make a neat gun.
For the people who are
still alive.
I'm not even angry.
I'm being so sincere right now.
Even though you broke my heart.
And killed me.
And tore me to pieces.
And threw every piece into a fire.
As they burned it hurt because
I was so happy for you!
Now these points of data
make a beautiful line.
And we're out of beta.
We're releasing on time.
So I'm GLaD. I got burned.
Think of all the things we learned
for the people who are
still alive.
Go ahead and leave me.
I think I prefer to stay inside.
Maybe you'll find someone else
to help you.
Maybe Black Mesa...
THAT WAS A JOKE. HA HA. FAT CHANCE.
Anyway, this cake is great.
It's so delicious and moist.
Look at me still talking
when there's science to do.
When I look out there,
it makes me GLaD I'm not you.
I've experiments to run.
There is research to be done.
On the people who are
still alive.
And believe me I am
still alive.
I'm doing science and I'm
still alive.I feel FANTASTIC and I'm
still alive.
While you're dying I'll be
still alive.
And when you're dead I will be
still alive.
STILL ALIVE.
Still alive.

If you could switch places with or be anyone you wanted . . .Who would you be? OR . . .?
You know I don't miss class unless I really need to . . .I have a stomach bug. Yuck. So does my husband and the girls-it's a lot of fun at my house! And now my son.
Today's blog is what you would have written on Friday, I am hoping not to lose our momentum too much. BLOCK 8-be sure you work on last week's blog too.
If you could switch places with anyone (real or imagined) who would it be? Why? For how long? Where would you go? What would you do? Create a little story. Have fun!
I am editing this post this AM because of the primary results last night (and because I feel a little better right now and can think). You may choose to write about your thoughts on the primary last night-be sure to not write in an insulting way. You may just try to put your thoughts out there. The polls had Obama winning by double digits. McCain was out of money this summer with is staff resigning in droves. Now look who just got a second chance. Do you follow politics? Are you intersted in what is going on? Why? Why not? You may even check CNN.com or BBC.com or any other news you like to watch for more information. You may even try looking at a source you don't normally look at for a different perspective.
Enjoy,
Mrs. Gaboury
Be sure to post.

Extra Credit
Reflection
My New Year's resolution is to remember to do my homework for Math and Science. For some reason this past year I kept forgeting I had homework in those classes. As for the rest of the stuff I want to improve in, it can wait for monthly goals. Starting in February I'm going to try to procrastinate less...like thats every going to happen.

Happy New Year!
I hope you had a great break and your brain is ready to work hard!
Here is today's question--please take into consideration YOUR life, the WORLD, and the books you are reading (mention them in your writing please)- and answer this:
Do we need other people's approval for what we do and how we live? "Whose affection do you value more, hers or theirs?"--Artie from Stargirl.
How easy is it to be our own voice? To do what we want and be who we want? What happens if we do not value our own voice and at the same time respect the voices of others? What happens if we do not STAND for something, do we FALL for anything?
How do you handle this? What keeps you focused and listening to your voice? What distracts you from being the true you? In the book you are reading-how are the characters handling this issue?
Enjoy!
